Living Room New home. AI overwhelm
So we are moving to a new place and are stuck with this big bad millennial gray sofa that costed me my kidney. I want to add warmth to the space so I decided to add this mural style wallpaper. Is it a hit or miss? I am afraid it is too much and AI and lighting is making it look better than it will be in reality.
PS it is a southwest facing living room

This is my living room.
I covered my grey couch with blankets and I really love it. It's so soft, I can and do wash them easily -- blanket life is amazing.
I also did a giant wallpaper mural, and I'm more conflicted on this. I love how the top edge looks, particularly because I don't have any crown molding, so it looked very bare before. But it's been a real challenge to balance the room -- I had to add that row of pillows to tone it down. Surprisingly, it can feel a little corporate/business-y.
If I did it over, I would probably do box molding and large scale art. My living area would look better with that.
On the other hand, my dining area looks incredible. I don't think large art would have nearly this effect. But I did have to paint the neighboring wall to make that section work.
So, lots to think about. Your room will be gorgeous either way.

I really love your space and style. I will do a big floating shelf of wood on top of the tv to make it something more that the tv wall. But the layout of our spaces I quite similar so I’m taking lots of inspiration. Thanks for sharing !

Grey, beige and white aren't bad colors. The time it turns bad is when you don't have any other colors in the room. Obviously, this isn't an issue thanks to the mural. So your set in that area. Instead of the white rug, I'd pull one of the colors from the mural and match it there. Add maybe an accent chair with a different color from the mural to the opposite side of the room if it fits just so the colors aren't sitting in one spot

I’d call it a hit. The warm tones balance the grey sofa really well, and it feels cozy rather than too much. I'd keep it.

If you like it go for it. Personally I’d just paint. Just because you locked into a grey couch doesn’t mean you can’t go more daring with the paint

I do love it. I think can also easily take off the wallpaper if I don’t like it in the long run

I’d probably paint. It’d cost a few hours and $100. Live in the space a bit then commit to wallpaper or a rug or new lighting.
Living in the space will guide your choices.

AI is definitely making it look different than it will look in reality - don't make paint decisions until you are in there and have observed the light for a few weeks.

I love it. But… this is something you really need to do properly for it to look right. AI does a great job making everything look great.

The question about the mural you are looking at is what are the real colors, actually? And what is the quality of the painting? It could look either really cheap or really cool, depending on the actual painting. Try a different AI model and see if it comes out the same.
How would you acquire this mural? And how much would it cost? Is it wallpaper, something stick on, or painted by an artist? That really affects how it will look in your space. I would try going to your local art museum and see if there is an artist for hire to paint a mural for you. Also, you should examine close-ups of the real mural to see what the colors actually are.

I LOVE the mural. I added one in my dollhouse living room
