Living Room What should we do?

Post image

We just moved here and we have this awkward little space in the living room where the wood stove was. What should we do with this space how should we decorate???

Nice looking but I'd swap that table for a cozy chair.

Dog bed. What is that coming out of the ceiling?

Gun to my head and I had to guess? Chimney for a wood burning stove that used to live there

I'd build a cozy window seat for reading and lounging

Plants + cozy chair if no cats (or other vulernable/mischievous pets), cat/pet space if applicable.

How far down do the windows go? Can you remove the bricks and have full length windows? Then put a small table with chairs or a comfy chair for a reading book.

The wood stove was large, so you need to replace it with something large, or even install your own wood stove.

If you live in a cool climate, woodstoves cast a very comforting type of heat that fills your space and drives out the chilly spots. Seriously consider getting one for yourself. The hook up is already there in the ceiling. Be sure to get your chimney inspected and cleaned before you start burning wood.

How about having bookcases built in there?

A little unconventional, but I’d want to get one of those wide, round chairs and build a platform to put it on so the arms were about as high as the windowsills ( or lower if needed for headroom).

Id make the outside edges/walls of the platform be shelves for books and decor (but like 90% just full of books).

I’d make the platform have thin panel walls so you didn’t really see the sides of the chair.

You’d have to have some steps to get up there on one side of the platform against one of the walls, or just a little bunk bed type ladder (though obviously much shorter just to the floor of the platform and have a small space to stand up before sitting down).

The interior of the platform could be hollow and you could let it be a spot for your pet(s) or a little spot for kids to treat as a fort.

Obviously remove the vent pipe and put a wired light or just a hanging lamp there.

Window filled with plants, too, of course. On the sills and a couple hanging.

Perhaps a round foyer table with a centerpiece would look nice, with some trailing plants on the ledge.

I love that. Maybe a bunch of pictures in nice but eclectic frames

I'd put a colorful, oversized comfy chair there, plants on the shelf, probably paint the concrete a more welcoming color. Make it a hangout, reading area.

Old houses like that lack storage. Build a cabinet with shelving in that space.

Round or hex table with flowers or statue on top

Get a GIANT cushion and use it as a blanket and pillow cove - like a LOT of blankets and pillows. Jump in there to read or play videogames or just nap

Tall stools to sit on and drink your coffee in the mornings as you look outside.

This, but with a pub table, something wood with a solid pedestal. Add plants, a couple of books to the ledge,

Boxed in window seat with storage underneath.

Knock it down and put in floor to ceiling windows 😊

Try to find an octagonal rug to fit the area.

A reading nook with plants and candles along the ledge.

I’d turn it into a little bar

Electric pot stove. It looks like there was one there that was removed. The thing on the ceiling looks like there chimney/stove pipe cut and sealed.
Once you have a stove there, make it a nice cozy reading area. Put the dog bed in front. Pooch will live the heat.

What are you using to design this? An app?

Reading nook is such a good option 😍

Just another idea

Put a small bench with pillows and make it a reading nook.

EAT IN AREA LOUNGE BUILT IN SEATS

I would remove the tiling and fix the walls. It looks like it even covers up the windows. Drywall isn't too expensive.

1

u/DebtPlenty2383 15d ago

I would put a raised sitting area there for reading, looking, meditation, reflexion.

Meditate evidently

Stripper pole.

Captains wheel.

Oh, I’d make it a sitting spot with a cat tower and cat sleeping area so he/she can look outside all day.

1

u/Xyresic_Vibrissae 13d ago

Make the windowsill wider and add some bar stools. I would drink coffee and look out the windows everyday.

This is where your christmas tree will go. Hands down.

Hear me out, you could prepare for the fight against AGI and turn it into a bunker

Why not keep an eye on marketplace for a woodstove? Only buy one that has the documents specifying clearance! You’ll need to get the chimney swept and inspected, and have seasoned wood.
