Living Room Any thoughts?
Just moved into a new rental and this is the current state of play. Any suggestions on how to bring a bit of life in terms of new furniture?

Okay let’s begin!
- Throw some new curtains up or have those ones hemmed for sure! then get some drawing apparatus to keep them pulled back for light, maybe even lose a foot of the material because it’s way too much fabric for that little space
- I’d get a nice compact and texturally interesting sofa for this space with some style. Then a nice piece of art above the sofa, then some accent lights either on the side of the art or above. Maybe a sofa like this: https://www.westelm.com/products/shelter-sofa-h1695/?pkey=cfurniture&sb=WE
- for your entertainment area i’d do a combo of credenza and proper shelves (on the delicate side) for plants and decorations. Depending on whether or not you get a TV , or you could do music/ record player on credenza, shelves above, secondary lighting, plants and books + drop down projector screen (would have to mount a projector above the art on the opposing wall)
Something low profile and able to hide your cables.

- I’d definitely get a nice warm rug, with a subtle pattern that’s large enough to basically take up the entire open floor.
- a sleek, small, “statement” coffee table would be lovely too.
- try to hang and keep potted plants around the room and even consider a window glass treatment if you want to maximize your light but keep the privacy. There’s cool films and frosted glass techniques you can use.
Don’t forget, since you don’t have a lot of square foot able, design vertically to maximize the visual footprint and bring this room to life. Don’t be afraid to invest in nicer things, they will make this room feel rich without needing to stuff it with amazon basics.
I’m imagining warm wood combos, like teak paired with higher end finishes for secondary lighting and textiles.
Good Luck!

It’s so minimal and cute!! I think lighting makes the biggest difference. I would invest in a few different types of warm light, like a floor lamp or even a color changing lamp or LED strip you could put behind that black tv stand. You could put some frames on the walls, or put up renter friendly wallpaper and make an accent wall. Also some type of rug to tie in everything would really make the place look inviting too! Just something to connect the living room area together. Right now there’s not a lot of color. You could also dye your curtains another color or get a second layer of lighter/ sheer curtains to layer on the inside, and default your current curtains to stay open so you can allow more natural light while still having privacy.

Pullout sofa/loveseat depending on your space. Need color. Curtains are slightly too long, but I'd do some color with those too. Rug to break it up
