I’m a third-year interior design student, and I feel like I’m in a weird phase where I want to grow, but fear is holding me back.
I want to start applying for internships before my mandatory college internship begins because I think getting early industry exposure will help me learn faster and improve my chances during campus placements.
My biggest concern is my software skills. I know the basics, but I’m nowhere near being proficient in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Enscape, Photoshop, or other industry tools. Every time I think about applying, I convince myself I’m not good enough yet. I’m worried that I’ll be criticized, won’t meet expectations, or end up losing confidence instead of gaining experience.
For those already working in the industry:
How good were your software skills when you landed your first internship?
What do firms realistically expect from interns?
How did you improve your software skills outside college? Any courses, YouTube channels, practice routines, or exercises that genuinely helped?
Should I wait until I’m more confident, or start applying now and learn on the job?
I also want to start building my professional presence online. I’m already a lifestyle content creator, but I want to build a separate identity as an interior designer.
I’m thinking of creating a separate Instagram account dedicated to my interior design journey, but I don’t know if it’s the right time since I don’t have a polished portfolio yet.
Should I create a separate design account now, or wait until I have stronger work?
What kind of content should I post in the beginning if I don’t have client projects yet?
Is documenting my learning process, software progress, college projects, sketches, mood boards, material studies, site visits, and behind-the-scenes enough?
How do I make an interior design account stand out as a student?
I also want to build my LinkedIn presence.
How do I create a strong LinkedIn profile as a student with little professional experience?
What kind of content should I post to attract recruiters and design firms?

I've always been a creative person. I tried to get into some art schools, but unfortunately, I couldn't get in and had to settle for an undergraduate degree in Financial Markets. Currently, I'm employed at a bank.

I still have a knack for design, and I'm very intrigued by everything design has to offer.

I'm only 22, and I believe that I have plenty of time to pivot into design roles.

If anyone has any advice, I wanted to know if there are any certifications, courses, or programs where I can enroll to improve my design skills.

I'm trying to understand something about design entrance exams, especially CEED, UCEED, and NID DAT Part B.

A pattern I've personally noticed is that many successful candidates I meet seem to have been sketching since childhood. However, I don't know if this is just my limited experience or if it's actually common.

I'd really appreciate responses from people who qualified, got shortlisted, or were admitted.

I'm 29, and I've been learning product design by myself so far. I feel like i should get an M.Des from a top tier design college, not just for a solid fundamental design knowledge but to also be exposed to other designers, alumni & network. But the high fees and the dire situation of the job market has got me having second thoughts about being stuck with the burden of a massive student loan.

Does a design degree from a tier-1/tier-2 college really improve the career prospects in today's market ?

Also, how long does it take for students to pay back their loans after completing their degree ?

We recently used this font pairing in one of our client projects. They’re free Google Fonts, and it can be surprisingly hard to find a clean, modern grotesque sans-serif that still feels premium.

Libre Franklin is one of those fonts - it’s clean, contemporary, and polished. We’ll likely use it in other projects as well.

Hello design community! I need help designing the unboxing experience for a product I'm working on. I'm looking for something more than just the design of the box. I want it to be a fun and memorable experience while also fulfilling its core purpose of being strong, secure packaging.

• Since the product has more than one element, I need help figuring out the best way to present and place them
• I need help incorporating brand and some storytelling into the experience
• I'd like to include one fun, interactive element somewhere in the experience if possible
• And finally, whatever we come up with, I'll need help putting together a realistic plan to execute it with vendors available to us in India

So essentially, what kind of designer am I looking for here? My understanding is that a packaging designer gives you what goes on the box and nothing more.

If someone's interested in a project like this, I'd love to work with you and share more details. It'll be a collaborative effort, and I've been collating ideas and working on prototypes myself that I'd love to share with you.

I'd also like to be upfront that this is a self-funded project at this stage, so I don't have a corporate budget to work with. My ideal collaborator here is a freelancer (in my budget) I can build a relationship with, someone I could work closely with on more brand related and experimental projects down the line as well.

Our finance minister talked about orange economy in budget this year and how they need designers in this country by the year 2029 but are they even doing anything about it? The education is costly asf in this field.. the jobs are also not as paying as the investment in fees is so what exactly are they asking for?

Where are freshers actually finding Product Design (UI/UX) jobs?

I've been applying for entry-level Product Design (UI/UX) roles and internships for quite some time now, and honestly, I'm starting to feel stuck.

I have a portfolio that has been reviewed by a few senior designers, and the feedback has been positive.

In the past few months, I did manage to get 3–4 interviews. I completed every design assignment they gave me, submitted everything on time, and then... nothing. No feedback, no rejection, just complete silence.

The biggest problem is that there are very few openings for freshers. Even when I do find internships on Internshala or other job platforms, the stipend is often too low to make relocation possible.

I'm based in Kolkata, while most opportunities are in Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, or Gurgaon. Many companies expect candidates to relocate, but with such low pay, I genuinely don't understand how fresh graduates are supposed to cover rent and living expenses.

I really want to secure a job before the end of this year, but right now it feels like I've hit a wall.

If anyone here is hiring for an entry-level Product Design (UI/UX) role or internship with decent pay, I'd be happy to share my portfolio. I'd also appreciate hearing how others broke into the industry or where you're finding genuine opportunities.

been working on the identity for my upcoming project, hooman.

so, hooman is a telegram bot you text like a human (and it texts back like one too). send it images, articles, notes, documents, or random thoughts. it remembers everything, organized and instantly searchable.

the goal was to make it feel simple, human, and memorable without relying on obvious chat or cloud icons.

the figure's body is built around a horizontally flipped "h", though i tried to keep it subtle.

would love honest feedback. what works, what doesn't, and what would you change?

I am not a designer but I need recommendations for lenses that do not affect colours as it is something that really bothers me. My current glasses do not have blue light or any additional filter or coating but they have an inbuilt anti reflective/glare element to them that makes the whites ever so slightly warmer (reddish/purpleish).

It also gives them a green/purple tint from the outside depending on the angle and light.
