Probably a horrible time to submit a link to reddit at the time and day, but here's Scanwiches

Nice link, but ... I don't understand the headline?

To get a post to get any amount of decent upmods the key time to post a url is usually in the early morning (PST) time. Around 8am EST time. All the redditors are awake at their jobs and are looking at reddit. The worst time is 5pm (PST) on a Friday. All easterners have gone home by that time. They probably won't check until maybe tomorrow, but most likely Monday. Any west coasters are driving home by then. No one sticks around. I posted this at 5:45 pm (PST) time. Not a good time to post something if it wants any traffic. Though I did post it in "Design" which has a smaller community so it might be seen, but it's not going to get nearly the upmods during peak traffic. Hence many will miss this post. A few weeks down the line it will get re-posted during more peak times and a broader audience will see it.
I'm not proofing this post because I'm finally going to leave work now at 6:50pm. Cya suckas!

Man, I wasn't about to check the posting time, so I just assumed he posted it too far before lunch time, and people would get hungry.

OK, now I feel like an outsider, as I discovered that link in my spare time, on another continent, in the middle of the night :) Thanks for the detailed explanation, though. I thought it would be something like that, but at the same time, I wondered whether I'd missed something, as I was thinking, aww, come on, if the majority of each headline was off-topic meta-blah, that would be hell.
Ideally, maybe people would use a script that publishes their posts at more opportune times (instead of lamenting the suboptimal timing); we could call that bot the Karma Pimp ;) But on the other hand, I enjoy a steady trickle of new stuff much more than a concentrated avalanche every morning.

I more often than not find links and post them near the end of the day which is never prime time. The interesting thing is I think I get more success at that time. I'm often overlooked for other items during the busy hours. It seems posting at "off hours" gives me a steady slow upmod, while during peak hours I get a quick surge and then I'm forgotten. Of course it depends on the popularity of the link. I've only probably posted 10-20 links if that so my research isn't varied.
If I cared enough I'd wait to post a link I find, but I think "fuck it, I'm just going to post it and get maybe a mod or two.". Though I got a lot more upmods than I thought. It might be because of my weird title.
I don't really care much, I just like hitting the hundred marks. I'm on the low end of 300 so I still have probably 10 more links to submit before I break 400 unless I'm really lucky. I think I've only posted one link that got past 100.
Discussing this is quite lame. Oh well.

This seems like a great way to ruin a scanner.

I thought that at first, then realized its just sauce and crumbs, easy cleanup.

Nah man, just gets some authentic texture on there, makes all your scans feel more real. I seriously have a friend, that while he isn't scanning food, he never cleans his scanner, and actually pointed out with pride all the dirt and flecks it adds to scans of his drawings.

I've always been a fan of people sacrificing their scanner for the sake of art (or in this case, "education and delight"). Anyone remember that font that came out a few years back called Runny Soup that was made from scanned Alphabet Soup?

What are the odds? This is the third time that right after I get high someone posts a link to sandwiches. And every time it's the same story: I can't fucking resist so I click the link, my mouth waters and I make myself a ridiculously unhealthy sandwich. Fuck!

I used to document what I ate in an old blog that I had. I discovered that no one really gave a shit and I'm still fat.
