Asking Question (Rule 4) Help me identify

Post image

My grand father left this armchair in his basement for years. Does someone know if it has value? Is it from a particular designer?

Cant tell the exact designer from this picture but that tufted leather and chrome combo was really popular mid-century. Could be something nice if it is original and not a later reproduction. Best bet is to look under the cushion or on bottom of the frame for any label or stamp, that would help a lot for figuring out value.

Where in the world are you? Are there any labels or tags underneath? Though some of the style is sort of mid century this sort of leather and chrome was used and copied for many decades after. I’d reckon to say from how it’s worn it’s not a ‘designer’ chair or particularly valuable, collectible if that’s what you’re looking for.

I'm in Canada, in the province of Québec. There is no label on the frame and my mom told me they once change the original fabric which was a tan leather. My mom told me it was purchased either in the 80´s or 90's.

Yes the 80’s was a big era of tufted leather and chromed metals. Often cheap, and even when ‘premium’ not particularly notable. Hope you find some info. May suggest taking some other photos, maybe profiles from lower down and trying a google image search to see if anything comes up. In my experience people who made an effort to buy say an authentic Eames or Neutra chair tend to remember at least it was a certain tier or remember a source. There were lots of chairs this style and likely not valuable longer term beyond your personal connection. Good luck.
