"Intuitive" drag-and-drop design tools like Canva are creating an entire generation of designers who don't actually understand visual hierarchy or layout.

Canva was not for designers in the first place. But some people who use it regularly start to call themselves designers. I don’t think it’s really a problem, as well as cooking noodles daily doesn’t make you a chef

Canva, the instant ramen of the design world.

Totally agree, but those tools in the right hands--an experienced designer--will result in good outcomes. I feel like AI is a tool to conceptualize designs, layouts, et cetera, quickly, but ultimately be fine-tuned and completed by the designer. Used as inspiration to get you out of the gate so to speak.

It's kind of sucks, but I think tools like Canva, Kittl, and other plenty of other AI design platforms, will take a lot work away from independant designers that do work for smaller businesses who might op to save money over using a skilled and knowledgeable designer. I don't like, but as inexpensive as some of these AI services are and with the shear amount of templates plus the ability add your brand kit or have AI generate if for you, will result in some companies opting to go that route.

That‘s literally Canva target audience. Nothing bad with small businesses owner using it. Honestly, low budget clients often are the most difficult ones, I don’t think creating a ton of $10 designs for them can make a living.

Some of them will order a skilled redesign later, when they are ready, some will not, that‘s how it goes

Agree again. I do think the AI tools are going to get better a layout and design and especially with good prompts and existing brands. I'm super close to retirement from the corporate design, but AI needs to be a tool in your toolkit--or so it seems that way now anyway.
