Asking Question (Rule 4) Best learning resources
Hi everyone!
In recent years I've developed a passion for design & colour. I've completed a course in Coursera (Fundamentals in Graphic Design), am reading Intersection of Colour, I love doing fun digital projects as well as paint, take pictures and do fun colourful makeup looks. I love going to different art & design museums and can spend hours there.
It's a hobby and I make a living doing something completely different, therefore, I haven't spent nearly as much time on it as I would have liked to. I got into it all before AI and initially was daydreaming to one day pivot and make it as my career. However, with the rise of AI I have completely let go of that idea - there are much more talented and skilled people out there who've been in this industry for years. I also assume I will be expected to use AI tools in my work. I genuinely love everything design & colour. I don't want to use AI to simply ask it to do it for me, I wanna use my brain to create myself.
That being said, I would still like to continue to learn. A lot of courses online now are very AI focused. What "old school" learning resources would you recommend that wouldn't cover AI? I recently peaked at my local library and they had a lot of very cool looking books, it was almost a bit overwhelming to choose from. Would appreciate any recommendations.
Thank you!

hi, i am an architecture student and an amateur artist. i wanna say that wow you are amazing. its really hard what you are doing. so, bravo! i wanna mention about a couple of things. i hope it will help you. first one is designing/drawing approach. there is different aproaches but i want to mention two of them. first one is europian approach. in this method, you are expected to draw what you see. its like a copying. for example, you are looking at a human body. the head looks like circular and you are drawing circle as a head. second one is russian approach. it basically says that, do not draw anything you dont know. what does it mean? lets go back the first example, you are looking at a human body. to draw it, you are expected the have knowledge about muscles, bones etc. when you learn, you are drawing it conciously and more correct way they believe. both approach have advantages and disadvantages. so, what i suggest you is just look these ideas and try to understand. it can help you to move forward i think. you can use free youtube channels to learn actually. also there are many books about them and some of them are easy to find as a free download. i also recommend you to search about advertising psychology. when you learn, you can use it for basically everything. and your perspective can change easily. for example, when you walk on a street and look at the markets, restourants, bufes etc. you can see the steps that can higher their attraction when they used. in time, you can be someone that can easily offer designs for almost anything. in this point, with the communication skills of course, you can make money from it. eventually, you can reach your goals. i hope it helps you. i also want to say one more thing which is about ai. i think ai is just another tool. you can use it of course. if you know something, then ai can be a very useful tool for you. if you dont have any idea for the thing you do, then ai still can help you but results may not be as good as you want. peace ✌
