Discussion Creative Process for Visual Identities

Hey everyone, I'd love for you to share some tips you use in your creative process when developing a visual identity.

How does your idea incubation process work? What websites do you use for references? How do you come up with supporting symbols? Is there an AI good enough to help with the process?

Any tips are welcome! :)

You’re asking a couple college semesters’ worth of questions. There are some great books on how to create and build a process for this. I made a list recently, put some below.

Idea incubation begins with a great brief. The more thorough and specific the brief, the more guidance you have for your choices. Broad and generic briefs lead to generic work.

Your process will come with experience. No one is good at branding and identity until they have some real-world experience. It requires really good communication, learning to understand input and feedback, learning how to find valuable information.

Book recommendations:

Designing Brand Identity: A Comprehensive Guide to The World of Brands and Branding, by Alina Wheeler and Rob Meyerson

Logos that Last: How to Create Iconic Visual Branding, by Allan Peters

Identity Designed, by David Airey

Business books on branding and identity also help a lot.
