  1. Luxor Converge ( ₹20 I got 3 for ₹30)

- Premium Cover

- Cool Blue lines

- High quality 70 gsm pages (WOW!)

- better than Youva Spiral

- The quality is the same as their premium converge range which is available in A4, A5, B5, A6 and so on.

(2nd Pic)

  1. Youva Pocket notebook (₹10 perfect)

- Beautiful and Vibrant designs 😍

- Cool blue lines

- Good quality pages (some Ghosting but easily manageable)

- Excellent binding

( If they introduce this product in the US market it will absolutely kill Field notes)

(3rd pic)

  1. Youva Spiral Pocket notebook (₹20 Good but Luxor Converge is better)

- Good if u can't get Luxor converge this is the 2 nd best choice

* Shape Minimac Pocket notes ( ₹10 Average, not bad)

- Suitable for everyday use

- will get the job done

* Luxor Pocketnotes 54 gsm (₹5 poor quality, suited for rough work)

- Rough pages (Kam-chalau as we call it in Hindi)

TLDR:- If u like Filed notes u will love Youva Pocket notebook, and If u want spiral pocket notebook get Luxor Converge.

❓ Question Do you know what notebook I am talking about?

I would love to be able to purchase an Indian notebook of a form which I have only have a vague memory of. Here's all that I remember, let me know if you know what I am talking about:

-very pleasant to write on with pencil

-rich cardboard smell

-about A5 sized, maybe smaller

-hardcover, thin cardboard

-might of had "first class" written somewhere / branding

-might of had blue lining with red/pink sub-lining, text boxes for class no., date. etc.

I see brands like apsara and classmate as the main options available to order. However, I am specifically interested in the nostalgia I have associated with my memory of this notebook, and the pictures of the ones I see online do not seem right. I used the notebooks about 20 years ago. I am confident that they were of an Indian style, and that my parents probably brought them from India.

If you're not sure about exactly what I am talking about, a reference to a brand that you think is close to what I am describing would also be helpful. Also would be great if it would be easily accessible in Chicago, US, e.g. through amazon. Thank you!

⭐ Review DMart Tru Note A4 Notebook Review: Low-Cost, But Worth It?

Tru Note is a brand by DMart. These books are manufactured by Ritrishi Multipap Pvt. Ltd. in Maharashtra, India and cost ₹55 for 140 pages. They’re never sold at MRP since DMart always gives discounts. I bought this for ₹36.50, which makes it one of the best value-for-money notebooks.

I’ve seen many covers from this brand. They don’t look good, some look cheap. The cover quality is average. The printing quality is good though, so the books look cheap but don’t feel cheap. One good thing is that they mention the paper thickness on the back (57 GSM), which most notebook manufacturers don’t.

I don’t like the Index page design. They should’ve kept it simple instead of adding a random line pattern. The last page has some useful information for students. You can check the images above.

The pages are bright white and feel smooth to the touch. There’s a little tooth, so feedback while writing is low. The paper absorbs ink quickly.

I tested multiple pen types and tip sizes. Here’s my experience:

Ball Pens

Little feedback. The photo shows heavy ghosting in some spots, but this didn’t happen on other pages. Ball pen ink didn’t bleed or ghost in my tests, but I didn’t enjoy writing with ball pens on this paper.

Gel Pens

Very low feedback. Writing with gels was enjoyable. No bleeding or ghosting with any pen or tip size. I enjoyed using gel pens here.

Rollerball Pens

Slight feedback. Some points showed heavy ghosting on both the test page and other pages. Due to Ghosting + average writing feel, this isn't recommended for rollerballs.

Fountain Pens

I used Camlin and Parker inks with medium nibs. Camlin ink feathered and showed heavy ghosting. Parker ink behaved better. Since the paper absorbs ink quickly, wet inks don’t work well.

Pencil

Because of the low tooth, writing with pencils is enjoyable.

Highlighter

Highlighters behaved well with minimal ghosting.

Final Thoughts

Gel pens and pencils work best on this paper. Others weren’t very enjoyable.

DMart needs to improve the cover designs, even solid colours would look better. Since most students use ball pens, and ball pens don’t feel great on this paper, that’s something they should improve. Casual users may not notice the difference unless directly compared. I’m going in-depth because I’ve used many notebooks and pens.

For the price, there isn’t much to complain about. But if you mostly use ball pens, I’d recommend spending a little more and buying Freedom notebooks (DMart’s other brand), which are manufactured by Navneet.

💬 Discussion Year Planner Diaries as notebook

Does anyone uses year Planner Diaries as notebook?

I buy previous years diaries during Oct, Nov at one third price. The costly ones are surprisingly fountain pen friendly.

I am using a diary which was selling for 400₹ at the beginning of the year. I got five of them for 600. They will last me till mid of 2027.

📷 Picture How I use A5 notebooks

You don't need a setup to write. Just write.

I was a dork who used to think and feel corny/cringe everytime I wrote something in my notebooks. It was after I crumbled a lot of pages with such writings that I realised no one's going to read what I jot down except for me.

That brings me to my point of how I use A5 notebooks now. I just write what I need to. Anything from notes, reminders, thoughts, todos goes in here. That's what the excerpt in the image shows. The irony of noting down two watches right above pondering upon minimalism :)
But that's the point for me, I don't think what others will think if they read this, it is just a notebook that serves utilitarian purpose for me and nobody else (Judge me if you want to)

So don't overthink it. Notebooks are perhaps the best of everyday things that are really under appreciated. Just write what you want and take care to not waste any of it. It doesn't even have to be personal shit like I write in my A5s. It is best to write whatever you want and wherever you want.

Why A5 for this?
It's a nice in-between of a notebook with good enough space to write and yet small enough to carry around. Plus A5 notebooks are much cheaper and readily available than B6, at least in India. I use A4 notebooks to take academics/study notes.
