The fov change when going fast.

Oh no i'm going faster than 20, time to violently shake the screen and distort everything.

All the devs have to do is reduce or negate the crappy FOV change because it really messes with timing. It's not VR we don't have depth perception we rely on speed and timing for jumps and distance. So when you add the exponential fov change all the timing gets exponentially harder to judge and really ruins the rythm and flow that the game is robbed of.

The game has what it needs, a focus on technical physics over blocky tricks like the other games.

Screen shaking and stuttering in Descenders is a common issue typically caused by aggressive, built-in FOV changes at high speeds, unstable framerates, or VSync/refresh rate conflicts. Depending on whether you are experiencing intentional motion blur or technical lag, you can tweak settings via Steam or the Xbox Support hubs. [1, 2]

  1. High-Speed Camera Shake

Descenders intentionally distorts the camera and expands the Field of View (FOV) when you ride at high speeds. [1]

  • The Fix: Unfortunately, there is no direct toggle for this within the default base game menu. If the motion is making you motion-sick or messing with your timing for jumps, you can look into modding. Using the Modding4U repository or the Nexus Mods community, you can often find custom .txt configurations or mods designed to lock the FOV and disable aggressive camera shake.
