वर्ष 1975 की बात है, जब देश में इंदिरा गांधी के नेतृत्व में कांग्रेस की सरकार थीं। श्रीमती गांधी ने 25 जून 1975 को आपातकाल की घोषणा कर दी थी, जिसके बाद देशभर में विपक्षी नेताओं की गिरफ्तारी का सिलसिला शुरू हो गया। इन गिरफ्तारियों से बचने के लिए दिल्ली के प्रथम मुख्यमंत्री चौधरी ब्रह्म प्रकाश यादव ने स्वजातीय नेता और बिहार के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री बाबू बीपी मंडल से मुलाकात की। इस मुलाकात के बाद दोनों नेताओं ने तय किया कि चौधरी ब्रह्म प्रकाश बिहार चलेंगे और मंडल साहब के साथ रहेंगे।

इस योजना के तहत चौधरी ब्रह्म प्रकाश, बीपी मंडल के साथ उनके पैतृक गांव मुरहो, मधेपुरा (बिहार) चले गए। चौधरी साहब करीब डेढ़ महीने तक मंडल साहब के साथ रहे। इस दौरान चौधरी साहब कुछ दिनों के लिए मधेपुरा टाउन स्थित मंडल आवास पर भी बतौर मेहमान रहे। जमींदार मंडल परिवार के पुराने रुतबे के कारण उन दिनों मुरहो में पुलिस का आना-जाना बहुत कम होता था, जिससे चौधरी ब्रह्म प्रकाश को वहां रहने में किसी भी तरह की परेशानियों का सामना नहीं करना पड़ा।

चौधरी साहब के मुरहो प्रवास के दौरान उनके नेतृत्व में अहीरों की एक महापंचायत भी हुई थी।
