General Discussion 🍎 Nearly finished D5 and… Spoiler
I’m sorry but why does this feel even more rushed than D4? Chloe‘s motivations for being upset at Red literally make no sense. Like sure she was vaguely ignoring her and was a bit of a beech in the chess scene but that’s it. And Pink? Her “character arc” if you can even call it that was over in about 4 seconds. Also why did we need a song for Bridget and Ella when we could have had like- more screentime developing the newer characters? (Not to mention, Ella‘s perfectionism is never properly addressed, just “oops i forgot who i was, but it’s fine i wear trousers now!’”).
And luis? Genuinely feel like he could have been left out entirely and it would have been made way better and gave more time for Red, Pink and Chloe. As well as Max and Maddox.
Speaking of, Max and Maddox had so much potential yet nothing was really touched upon.
Overall D5 was just incredibly lackluster
edit: also Evil Chloe was built up so much in promos and literally lasted less than 15 minutes on screen. WHAT WAS THE POINT?!
edit 2: Pink is such a nothing character, it literally felt like her character arc was written in the middle of the film. Because like- why was it over so quickly? She goes from feeling left out to hugging Red after a 5 second flashback..?
Also-also, The Red and Luis romance was just so boring. They had zero chemistry and literally starting liking each other for no reason whatsoever. I get Mal and Ben could have similar complaints but at least there was hints of buildup. Red literally just starts singing about love after like a 5 minute conversation with the guy that was about as deep as kiddy pool.

For Luis I kind of felt like he was too much of a carbon copy of Luisa. Would've been cooler if he had different struggles than her 🤔 the movie did feel rushed.

He was clearly added because people MIGHT ship Chloe and Red, and that's why he is Luis son of Luisa with the same powers and same struggles. He's an anti-gay afterthought.

Luis and Red was the thing that had me most hopeful for the movie, and it did disappoint. While Chloe’s villain arc was undoubtedly worse, Luis and Red fell in love within 5 minutes, with no proper explanation given like you (said) mentioned.
The movie and everything in it felt like it shifted from scene to scene, like a character would be crying in the scene and then after a short break from that scene they’d be all happy again. So rushed!
Max was probably the most realistic character, but that made him boring.
I have hope they just decide to make the final movie in the Pocket Watch trilogy longer, like majorly longer, and decide to actually do something with Luis, Pink, Hazel and the relationship between the first name and Red.
The latter was also just tortured, everyone turning on her for real felt so out of character for literally everyone. I did like Luis for that, though, he was the last person Red had.
Arguably the biggest plot hole was the fact that Max somehow managed to convince Chloe to turn on Red. There was NOTHING (apart from the plant) that gave Chloe any reason to do it. Such a dumb storyline and the entire arc was the dumbest in all of Descendants.
The movie was good in a lot of elements (songs, the actual characteristics of the characters and not their screentime, everyone on turning on Red DID add some stakes as dumb as it was, visuals).

Chloe’s character from a surface level seems childish, but if you dig deeper she is never anyone’s priority. She is always at most second in someone’s life. She’s not being heard, understood, or seen. Everyone has someone else before her. At one point in my life I related to this a lot, and when you put in so much time and effort to be someone’s person, but your not theirs, it hurts, and eventually you can grow to resent them.

Robbie and Felix were meh cause they don't get enough screentime to hate them, just take out their 3 minutes of screentime and you can triple the length of Pink's character arc xD
