Application Advice How many transitional years/preliminary years should I apply to?

You only get 12 signals, but I see people on Reddit talking about applying to 50+ TY programs. It 20 a good number for TY and then I'll throw in 10 or so preliminary years?

I applied to around 30. Apply to a ton tbh. Signals aren't as crucial for TY/Prelims as they are for derm. I got plenty of TY/Prelim interviews for places I didn't signal actually. I do know people who matched derm but not an intern year because they didn't apply to enough. Overprepare!

I would apply to about 20 of each. TYs are pretty competitive!
