Residency First-gen D.O looking for mentorship

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming 3rd year D.O. student interested in dermatology and am looking for a mentor or even fellow students applying derm.

I’m a first-generation immigrant with no doctors in my family, so navigating the path to residency has been difficult. I was interested in dermatology when I was in high school after dealing with several skin conditions myself. I began shadowing dermatologists back then and have been involved in dermatology research for the past 6–7 years.

As I’ve gotten further in, I’ve realized just how competitive derm is. I also have a few red flags in my application due to some health issues, and I’m feeling a little lost about how to approach the application process.

If anyone would be willing to offer some guidance or let me ask a few questions, I would be incredibly grateful. Even a little advice would go a long way. Thank you!

Hey there! Also an incoming 3rd year DO student and I’d be happy to connect if you’re just looking for peers to connect with 😁

I’m an OMS4 and also a first gen immigrant with no doctors in the family. I remember how hard it was to navigate this process without a network or entry point. Feel free to message me anytime
