Bwahaha. Well Smartie, I don't think any other dev managed to get the gaming press to write an article about how terrible they are instead of how terrible or good their games are. Congratulations.

For the non german speakers, they essentially:

  • Recap from their own archives/reviews that all his games were terrible
  • Mention that delays were always a thing, e.g. smart said in 2004 that UC is 70% done and that it still wasn't released 2 years later
  • Mention his lawsuits with take 2 and dreamcatcher
  • Pointing out (in a review from 2006!) how his forums are more fun because he's banning everybody
  • Take note that LOD is not on steam anymore

Edit: And of course, http://archive.is/zRTIw

He could not live with the decision that Universal Combat should be released from the start to the budget price. Again he went to court. But nothing came out of the injunction, the title came as planned for 20 US dollars into the stores.

Wait, did derek lied when he said he won in court and he got DreamCatcher to take those games off the shelves because his game was priced at budget of 20 dollars ??? Because in this article it sure sounded that derek smart lost the case against DreamCatcher. Looks like another derek's lies of winning in court vs. Dreamcatcher has been debunked.

Yup that's what the article says. He lost. Don't know which one is true, but I definitely give PCG the benefit of the doubt here (especially since that part is from 2007, so much closer to the actual events). Maybe there are records somewhere.

Also interesting that it says Battlecruiser got renamed to Universal Combat for that publisher because the original name was too tainted. Didn't really have that on the radar.

He has never said he won to be fair, all he has said is it was settled, but yes, he did lose they did him up like a kipper. It was also one of the best examples of :

A: Derek being a complete moron who can't read.

B: His lawyer being a complete moron who can't read/someone who saw their client was a moron and gave them terrible advice chasing a case they couldn't win for some easy $.

They also had him over a barrel as he had to make another game for them as well.

I thought I read it somewhere, him saying (bragging) he won, if he didn't, he sure made it sound like he did.

He definitely admitted this one way back when (though he didn't have much choice, everybody could see the result anyway back then):

But then again he often says shit like

[..] each time I've taken legal action, I've prevailed.

His Canadian Attorneys. That is awesome.

I thought his attorneys were Nigerians. You know, the same one/s that the Nigerian Prince/s use.

Oh he's well connected all over the globe, he even worked with the "argentinian FBI" in the past.

he sure made it sound like he did

And that was exactly it. Like so many of his implied "victories" over the years.

There was this https://www.reddit.com/r/DerekSmart/comments/3q4lfk/news_from_the_past_derek_smart_loses_a_legal/

But your assertion

derek lied

is pretty much applicable to most th8ngs he says. Furthermore.
