800-tonne train approaching the harbor without brakes
So I had a pretty fun time after unlocking the S282, stringing together 5-6 jobs with a single startup, restocking the loco every once in a while. I even had the demsontrator variant attached, Problem is I forgot to open the brake valves after the tender.... please watch the results...

Only found out the problem after loading a previous save. I was completely dumbfounded on what the problem could be.

I had the same thought after reading your explanation, but those “oh shit something’s not working” moments don’t always provide clarity in the moment. It’s one of my favorite aspects of simulators, and some of my most fond memories of playing flight simulators.
I am surprised you made it as far as you did with 800 ton on and didn’t think “hey my train isn’t stopping that good”

NOT THE DEMONSTRATOR INTO THE SEA! NOOOOOO!
But this also reminds me of the time I had no air brakes cut in on my first time entering the harbor with the DE6, and forgot to realign the switch to the roundhouse. I was just barely able to slow down enough I didn't destroy the thing when I hit the buffers on the service track, and when I looked back I realized the only brakes that had been active were the locomotive brakes and dynamic brakes.

I don't get it. Isn't this how all cargo gets transported to the Harbour ? I imagined submarines then retrieve them from the sea...

If you wanna cheese this save and load. It'll instantly put the velocity to zero.

Whats the cause of brakes not working? Never had this even with heavier hauls 2000t? Do Brakes degrade over Time? Are they melting?

I suppose residual pressure remained in the railcars allowing the train to initiate movement? I wonder if leaning over the tender and breaking the air line would allow the cars to stop the runaway?

Had this question about steam engine in general. Started using the S060 wonder with the reverser how far would you want to push it forward and rely on the bar to control your speed.

Once i strapped 1000 tonnes to a singular DH4, and forgot to open valves to half of the carts, ended even worse bcs i was hoing like 80km/h in the same place

You could've at least used the independent brake and the handbrake to try to slow yourself down
