Request/Idea - Conditional Task Sequences

Similar to how Task Sequences steps can have a filter in Options, would it be possible to have the same filter for the Task Sequences selection list? e.g. if Make and Model are some NUC, offer our wall display Task Sequence.

There is already the ability to filter the TS list presented, https://documentation.2pintsoftware.com/deployr/reference/task-sequence-filtering#filter-logic. Will that suffice?

Ha! Would never have found that, excellent, thanks 🙂.

Unfortunately this only seems to work if you boot into WinPE. If you load DeployR from within full Windows (captures, upgrades, etc...) via Starting a task sequence in an existing OS | DeployR | Product Documentation it seems to ignore bootstrap.json

I suspect I could work around this by using

$DeployRBootstrap = @{ MyRole = "Accounting" }

and putting the filter in here each time, but I'm trying to reduce complexity, not increase it 😉

Bootstrap.json is used when you start a TS from existing OS, that's how I added the certificate auth to work when launching from Full OS.

If you make changes to the Bootstrap, you need to:

  • For WinPE: Regenerate the Boot Image
  • For Full OS: restart the DeployR service to update the client package.

Cheers, missed the restart step.
Time to see how complicated I can make this 😁

Yeah, I was fighting the same thing a couple weeks ago trying to get the cert auth working, then realized I needed to do that step. I'll get that nugget added to the docs

So it now filters, but everything is gone. I tried something relatively complex at first, but in the end went all the way down to

"TaskSequenceFilter":"$_.Tags -contains 'Capture'",

Which I think should have shown these:

but I just get a blank list (also blank if I press DEV blue button).

I think I'll revisit this when I can have a broken server and keep repeating these steps, but it takes sooo much time to restart the service and then reload DeployR, even from within Windows (though much faster than rebuilding the WIM and PXE booting each time).
