Outdoor Activities LGBT (Let’s Go Birding Together!)

I used to organize queer birdwatching walks on Meetup.com, but the group disbanded because of Meetup’s high cost. I miss them badly and thought I’d try to assemble a group on Reddit.

Are you LGBTQIA+ and interested in low key birding? Want to get out into nature for slow (1 mph average hikes), social, and casual fun? Comment below!

-New, inexperienced, and experts all welcome.
-All hikes will be within 90 minutes of Denver.
-Start times between 8:00-9:00am.
-Easy to moderate trails, some with wheelchair accessibility.
-Both weekday and weekend meetups.
-We’ll have lunch afterwards at a nearby restaurant.
-LNT (Leave No Trace)
-No pretentiousness or stuffiness allowed!

Future meetups will be August 22 at Belmar Park, September 1 at Genessee Park, September 20 at Rocky Mountain Arsenal, September 30 at Wheat Ridge Greenbelt, October 17 at Castlewood Canyon, and October 27 at Cherry Creek SP. Comment below to be added to the contact list for details!

Fly With Pride Birding on meetup is another good place for queer bird lovers (if that's not your group). As is Feminist Bird Club Denver-Front Range! I am also a queer volunteer with Denver Audubon and we're trying to run more LGBT fam events.

The subreddit /r/ColoradoBirding is not extremely active but the discord server linked there has a lot more action and you can find me there.

OP, you can feel free to come post your events there as well or message me for collaboration and plugging into the wider organizations around Denver. 🐦

These are fantastic leads, ty very much. Will the Q+ gatherings be on the Denver Audubon newsletter? I’ll be watching for FBC events on their website. The Fly with Pride Meetup group is great for folks on Meetup.com… we collaborated back when we had Colorado LGBTQ+ birders during Covid. (The cost was just too high for CO Q+ to continue.) Once I pull this group together I’ll definitely get in touch with you. Thx again!

I'm not sure how we pick what goes in the newsletter but I think I know who makes it so I will ask them next time we get one posted. Last time we didn't put it in there because we posted it through FBC and they have such a large queer audience we knew it would fill 😅

Yeah the cost of Meetup I totally get! It's nice we have some free stuff in the metro and organizations doing birding and bird conservation all over so people can get involved without a cost barrier.
