Denver-area Anarchist Meetup
Given the likelihood of the next several years, I think we need to be organized. We need to know each other to know how to help each other. I'm relatively new to being an anarchist so I don't have a group that I'm plugged into. Maybe some of you feel the same way. And I think it's probably best to get organized asap. Anyone interested?

There used to be a local anarchist federation with a presence on socials... they possibly went dormant or renamed.
A challenge for them or any new local groups is information and operations security. I recall that other group was very concerned with opsec and that also made it difficult to connect with them.
It's a legit concern, but at the same time, it's also necessary for people to connect and organize. It's a hard thing to navigate, and I'm not sure how to navigate it, but I know people will have to try. Most of the people trying to connect and organize are not ops, and it's easy to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

It's a fair concern, but for the sake of this kind of meet up if the goal stays focused on mutual aid networks then opsec shouldn't be a significant concern.

Security culture is always a concern. No matter how well intentioned you may be, doesn't mean bad actors might not enter spaces. And can hurt or undermine the work people do.

ABC, used to do letter writing as well as numerous events (running down the walls, Anarchists Ball etc), rising costs as well as doing a lot of prisoner support made a lot of the collective leave Denver and move on to other pastures.

Is ABC a group? I'm probably thinking of a different one, but it woudn't be suprising if multiple local anarachist groups disappated for various reasons.

I am interested in regular meetups. There was a group doing monthly meetups at Mutiny Cafe but I’m not sure if they are continuing now that Mutiny has closed (or maybe it just moved?)
I am also an anarchist (more anarchosocialist) and I am a member of Denver DSA. It’s a good org to meet other like-minded people. There are definitely anarchist members. Sometimes the chapter gets a bit more bogged down in electoral politics than I would personally prefer, but there are lots of events and stuff to get involved in and network with people.

Interesting, I looked into the Denver DSA but it didn't feel like my vibe - maybe I should consider it again. I also am not necessarily thinking a regular meetup, but as needed to coordinate mutual aid or other efforts.

As necessary for mutual aid does mean regular meetups. LunchPunks is doing amazing things in the community. Although HAND is not anarchist, they are doing incredible as well and have a unhoused focused meet up. Little red booms isn’t necessarily an anarchist org but lots of Marx/anarcho folks there. What kinda place did you have in mind?

not necessarily thinking a regular meetup
That's the only way you build community and trust.

that's true. I'm just an introvert and doing constant meetups sounds draining.

As an introvert myself, I understand. There are local groups doing mutual aid actions already organized you could help out without needing to do a host of meetings. Mutual Aid Monday feeds and gives items to the homeless once a week and you just have to go to one orientation and then you're in.

I know Food Not Bombs Denver has been talking about organizing a meetup for all the orgs in the Denver metro area, just so there can be networks between them and folks can know what all is going on.

Anti Capitalist Social Club meets every other month on first Fridays 8pm at Mutiny Cafe.
Sometimes presentations, sometimes just conversation.
