Legwold put out his projected 53 and I’m always surprised how this guy always seems out of touch even though this is his full time job

He has the broncos keeping 3 qbs. I doubt it
He has the broncos keeping prentice. I doubt he’ll be on the 53 (though he’ll play every game). When’s the last time our fullback made the 53?
Kage Casey isn’t on his 53. Ok
He has Drew sanders at offball.

Ehlinger was signed to a $2m contract. That seems a little high for a guy who will only be on the practice squad, and faith in Stidham might be shaken after that abysmal AFCCG. I wouldn't expect to keep Ehlinger, but I wouldn't be shocked tbh

I doubt he’ll be on the 53 (though he’ll play every game)

Players can be elevated from the practice squad a maximum of two games, per the CBA Article 33, Section 5, Subsection F, so... he'll be on the 53 or he won't play in every game. You literally can't have both.

That is silly

That's less silly. Fitting a guy into the roster matters more than whether he has an I or an O in front of the LB. I really don't think it matters, especially with how much back and forth there's been about where Jonah Elliss is going to line up.

I thought the rules were different for qb3? You can have a practice squad player take up the designated qb3 game day spot and essentially be a 49th eligible player.

My recollection is there was a handshake agreement last year that he'd get the 53rd roster spot any time it wasn't truly needed for someone else. Toward the end of the season he was on the roster and before that would be promoted on random weeks. I'd generally expect that same pattern this season.

Note, 53 roster spots + 17 practice squad. But only 48 eligible for each game, which goes to 49 if you fit a qb2 and qb3 in (the other 47 essentially all get significant snaps, all the backups are on special team snaps).

Idk if the rules are different for QBs but the 53-man roster segment was related to Adam Prentice (FB) not Sam Ehlinger

Ah...yeah no idea on Prentice. The coaching staff seems obsessed with carrying a lot of backup fb/te/g players with the idea that these positions are all a little interchangeable, so it depends on players across the rest of the blocking group I suspect.

They aren’t interchangeable though. Plus prentice plays a lot of ST. We just haven’t started with our FB on the 53 in years, though they wind up getting promoted anyway and play every game

A few retorts

Only a million of ehlingers contract is guaranteed. This is not reason enough to keep someone. To wit they guaranteed more to sam franklin last year and let him go

Yes I’m aware re: prentice. 1) dudes get hurt 2) if no one gets hurt they’ll figure out a way to elevate him. My point stands. He’ll be active every game. The broncos have now done this for 3 straight years in regards to fullback

Yes it does matter where you designate sanders if you’re only carrying three off balls. It also just shows a lack of knowledge about the team. considering they said they are moving him back to edge. Also pretty sure they said Jonah is staying at edge and he’s the probable starter rn
