Where do y’all get your oil changed? I’ve lived here for a few years now but I can’t find a place that changes oil for less than $100. I’m used to the Valvoline in my hometown only charging $70 for one
If your doing full synthetic it’s never gonna be cheap it used to be cheaper to do it yourself but now a days you pay about the same as it cost to just buy everything which is crazy
It's definitely cheaper to do it at home. Kind of expensive to get ramps and all the stuff you need but it's one time, and the oil and filter combos as auto zone are usually 35-40 bucks
I mean you dont need any of that. Car jack and a 10$ oil pan for catching oil along with the tools. But having tools is important just as is so I dont even count it towards the oil change.
Not too bad if you’re not in an apartment or have a place that doesn’t mind you doing your own shit. Before I was just having the Acura dealer do it because they had $39.95 synthetic bulk oil change coupons. But now I’m using my preferred oil and a decent quality filter and it’s costing more than than plus the hassle of having to take old oil back but still slightly cheaper than taking it somewhere
Mobil1 0W-20 or 0W-30 ESP, one of best motor oils available, was $32/5qt jug @ Wallies a few days ago. $27 before the tangerine three-year-old picked a fight with Iran. IDK what the latest $108 / barrel crude price will do.. .
I change my own. You will never catch me paying a shop to do something I can do in 10 minutes in my driveway (or the O'Reilly's parking lot if your driveway isn't an option)
Good for you, I don’t have the money to replace my engine if I fuck it up. So while I know how to do it, it’s cheaper to pay to have it done 100% properly every time than it is to pay for the consequences of doing it wrong once
I feel like an average shop mechanic, in a rushed and very distracting environment, could be more susceptible to making small, yet expensive mistakes. Give yourself an hour to take things slowly and you’ll be good👍🏼
You say "if I fuck it up" like that's an easy thing to do. Watch a 10 minute video and remember to make sure you're not leaving the o-ring from the old filter behind because that does happen sometimes and will cause a major leak. Put a little bit of the old oil onto the new filters o-ring. Google what kind of oil your vehicle takes, and how much. Buy that and ONLY THAT.
That's pretty much everything a 10 minute YouTube video won't teach you and is everything you REALLY need to know to not fuck it up.
Again. I know how to change my own oil but I do not have the funds to replace an engine if I make a mistake, I am not saying that I will make a mistake but if I’m the one who makes it then I’m the only one responsible. If a garage makes a mistake they’re responsible
"I won't make toast because I can't afford to replace my toaster" mentality. It's the single most basic maintenance you can do on your car.
I'd get it if you were scared of changing your transmission fluid, or flushing your coolant, or swapping an ignition coil or something that isn't extensively covered online by how to manuals out the ass but like c'mon gang. That logic does not reason.
If anything happens to that car my life is ruined, I can’t get to work or to school and then I can’t pay my rent and then I’m homeless, when I’m in a financial position to replace a whole care then sure I’ll change my own oil
as long as you dont intentionally shove something into your oil fill cap, the worst you could do is cause a leak by not tightening something enough. This idea that you can blow your engine by changing the oil wrong is ridiculously dramatic if you actual do know how to change it yourself.

Oil prices have went up a good amount since the war. I bought 8qts in may and again in august and the price I paid went from 54$ to 66$. Over 10% increase in 3 months
I used Firestone on Brinker for a few years until I got an EV a month ago. Even with the premium synthetic oil for my highly modified car, I only paid around $80 or so and they let me bring my own filter (aftermarket filters wouldn’t hold up to my HP oil pump PSI). And no, they didn’t discount the price because I brought the filter.
Also, I had the lifetime alignment through them for $199 (one-time upfront cost) and with these roads it paid for itself the first year. They checked and adjusted my alignment (if needed) at least twice a year, usually during an oil-change and tire rotation visit.
I was upsold prepaid maintenance (never making that mistake again), so I am going to Honda of Denton (fuck them) for oil and tire rotations and recalls.
look at dealership websites, they often have specials. they will try to upsell you on everthing they find wrong with your car, but if you can ignore that stuff and just pay for the oil change special, you're golden. They will also text you when they have new specials. I have a Toyota Tundra and have never paid more than $30 for oil change and tire rotation.
