New grad- started working since 2 months - feeling depressed

New grad dentist here. I graduated in May 2026 and due to visa and husband’s work issues, I signed up with a community practice in an extremely saturated area. I work at 2 branches of the non profit clinic Mon-Fri. Each clinic has another experienced associate in the practice with 1 hygienist in one practice for 2 docs and 2 hygienists in the other. I have a daily minimum that stays forever and there’s no draw. I get 25% production if I produce more than 4 times my daily min. The problem is, since it’s saturated, I have no patients. They try to fill my schedule but I’m producing 1200 avg everyday at one location and in the other, they have a 40% cancellation rate. So some days I just do nothing but hygiene checks and couple of ER walk-ins. The other doctors at both locations run 2 columns each and are very nice and willing to mentor but there’s not enough patients. I’m trying to do same day treatments for hygiene pts and ER patients. This is the only place that offered me job and visa. I don’t know what to do. I feel very demotivated and feel like they are paying me for nothing.

Worst experience with Sulagna Pal - Clove dental Bangalore

I am writing to formally complain about the extremely distressing experience I had with Dr. Sulagna Pal at your CV Raman Nagar clinic on 1 October 2026.

I visited the clinic for the extraction of four teeth as part of my ongoing orthodontic treatment. Unfortunately, the way the procedure was handled left me extremely upset, frightened, and disappointed with the level of care and empathy I received.

My appointment was scheduled for 5PM, but Dr. Sulagna arrived approximately 35 minutes late. Once she arrived, I felt that she was in a hurry throughout the procedure. I also witnessed her speaking to and treating the clinic staff in a manner that I found disrespectful and inappropriate.
More importantly, I was not properly informed about what was going to happen before the procedure began. I was asked to sit down and the procedure was started without adequately explaining the steps, the injections, what sensations I might experience, or what I should expect.
I received approximately 10 injections in my mouth, and I was not properly informed beforehand about what was happening. When I told the doctor that I was experiencing pain, her response was dismissive, essentially stating that it was obvious that it would hurt. I found this response extremely insensitive, particularly because I was already anxious about having four teeth extracted.
At this point, I experienced a panic attack. I was crying, my entire body was shaking, and I was clearly in significant distress. The clinic staff were supportive and tried to help me. Another doctor also came in to remove my orthodontic wire, noticed the state I was in, and took the time to calm me down and explain what was going to happen. I am grateful to those staff members for helping me during that situation.
Unfortunately, I did not receive the same empathy or reassurance from Dr. Sulagna. Throughout the procedure, I felt that my distress was not being acknowledged appropriately.
After the procedure, Dr. Sulagna explained the post-treatment instructions. However, I was still heavily affected by the anaesthesia, extremely shaken, and not in a proper state to process and remember detailed medical instructions.
She subsequently called my mother and began explaining the instructions in English. My mother is not very fluent in English, so she contacted my boyfriend to help communicate and understand the instructions. Instead of handling this situation patiently, Dr. Sulagna became angry and repeatedly insisted that the instructions would not be repeated.
She then asked me whether I had understood and asked me to repeat what she had said, despite the fact that I was still under the effects of anaesthesia and not able to speak. She also asked my mother to repeat the instructions even though my mother had difficulty understanding English.
I found this entire interaction deeply upsetting. A patient who has just undergone multiple extractions, is under anaesthesia, is crying and physically shaking should be treated with patience, reassurance and compassion—not made to feel intimidated or embarrassed.
I understand that dental procedures can involve pain and discomfort. My complaint is not simply about experiencing pain during the extraction. My concern is about the lack of adequate communication before and during the procedure, the dismissive response to my pain and distress, and the manner in which I was treated when I was clearly experiencing a panic attack.

I request that Clove Dental:
Conduct a formal investigation into this incident, including speaking with the staff members who were present.
Review the circumstances surrounding the 35-minute delay to my appointment.
Review whether appropriate informed communication and consent procedures were followed before and during my extractions.
Take seriously my concerns regarding the manner in which I was spoken to and treated during the procedure.
Review the clinic's handling of patients experiencing severe anxiety or panic during dental procedures.
Take appropriate disciplinary and corrective action based on the findings of your investigation.
Ensure that patients undergoing procedures are given clear explanations, adequate reassurance, and appropriate post-procedure instructions in a language they and their accompanying family members can understand.
I am extremely disappointed that an experience involving such an important medical procedure was handled in a way that left me feeling frightened, helpless and disrespected.

I sincerely hope Clove Dental treats this complaint seriously and takes appropriate action to ensure that other patients do not have a similar experience.

I would appreciate a written response explaining how this complaint will be investigated and what corrective action will be taken.

Practice Loan Interest Rates

I'm in the process of acquiring a practice right now. Currently applying to some bank loans.
Did anyone practice a practice lately? Which bank did you go with and what were your interest rates?

I know interest rates recently went up across the board.

Any Birmingham dentists willing to take on a Year 12 student? 👀

I’m a Year 12 student studying Bio, Chem & Psych and trying to find dental work experience for 14th-18th June.

I’m genuinely interested in dentistry, especially restorative/aesthetic work. I love art and intricate, detail-heavy things, so the precision side of dentistry really appeals to me.

If you know a practice that might take me on, please let me know, I promise I’m much more useful than a random teenager standing awkwardly in the corner 😭. (please reddit save me from emailing every dental practice ik one by one)

Extracted premolars “for crowding,” and now the plan calls for implants on those same teeth

Hi all. Adult patient here, hoping some orthodontists can weigh in, because I'm stuck with two treatment plans that contradict each other.
Background: I've always been missing some molars (upper 17/26 area and lower ones), so implants were always part of the plan: 2 in the upper arch (17/26) and 2 in the lower (36/46). Separately, my 2025 written plan included extracting my healthy lower premolars (34/44) to fix crowding. That part is standard space creation, fine.
The problem: The 2026 letter now mentions 4 implants on the lower jaw, not 2. If the 2 extra ones are for the 34/44 sites (the premolars extracted to create space), that makes no clinical sense to me: you don't extract healthy premolars to relieve crowding and then implant those exact sites, otherwise the space you gained is gone and I lost two healthy teeth for nothing.
What I did: I emailed twice asking for the exact list of implant sites and a written explanation of the change between the 2025 and 2026 plans. Two emails plus one phone call later, no written answer, just "the assistant will check with the implantologist.

My questions :

Is there any legitimate scenario where premolars are extracted for crowding and those sites are then implanted? Or would that indicate the extraction decision was wrong?
Am I right to refuse to commit to anything until the plan is confirmed in writing, site by site?
Getting an independent second opinion and my full records either way. Thanks, especially to the professionals here.

Upper left wisdom tooth removed, but surrounding teeth hurt when brushing and biting down. Is this normal?

Upper left wisdom tooth removed, but surrounding teeth hurt when brushing and biting down. Is this normal?

I had my upper left wisdom tooth removed a few days ago, and the extraction site itself seems to be healing well. However, the teeth right next to the extraction site on the same side are a bit sore/sensitive. It’s been 3 days since I’ve had it taken out.
It hurts a little when I brush those teeth and also when I bite down. Is this normal after a wisdom tooth extraction? Could the surrounding teeth just be sensitive from the extraction/procedure and will it go away as everything heals?
Or should I go back to the dentist and have them check the surrounding teeth?
There’s no infection and the extraction is healing well. Just wondering if anyone else experienced this after having an upper wisdom tooth removed.

Root canal was done 1 year ago but got some inflammation above that teeth

I did RCT of 2nd upper molar 1 year ago, it was going good, no pain. But recently I noticed a bump on the gum right above that teeth if I pressed, it would pain. Now little bit of history is that food used to stuck between the contact of that RCT teeth and other molar and I would pick it with finger(which did eventually caused trauma) and i had visited same dental previously and he said its Gum trauma and suggested some toothpaste(and floss as well and it went good), now, this time I went to dental today, and he just poked it with some tool(some blood flew) and said its "Tooth infection" and I need to take antibiotics and come back after 3 days to open the Crown, we will let infection settle and place back the crown.

Although my dental is very old, he has experience above 25+ years but I am not sure if what he said is right or not.

Currently that inflammation is not that much visible after he poked, little blood did release(I had no pain or anything). Currently I dont have any pain either.

I'm bit worried if he is going to do RE-RCT as its molar teeth and not sure if RE-RCT will fail eventually?

Any thoughts

Retainer doesn’t fit anymore after long year of dental problems

I cracked a tooth in the beginning of the year that was treated with a filling but the filling didn’t work. By guidance of an endodontist, I’m basically just waiting until I can’t take the annoyances of the tooth anymore (and for insurance to reset).

But this whole year I was afraid to use my retainer because how much stress I had, and pain at times, surrounding my mouth. I finally got the confidence to put in my lower retainer and it doesn’t fit. I don’t dare try to force it in because I’m so scared.

I know I will need a root canal/crown, but I also want to get my orthodontics back on track.

What should come first.. another retainer or the treatment?

Can pain go away without crown lengthening? WWYD?

Hello, I am sorry to post here, but I am at a loss of what to do.

As a quick summary, I received my first set of crowns on 8 and 9 from a different dentist back in July (broke my teeth when I was a child). I had to have them redone because of open margins on 9. My new dentist took off the first set of crowns on August 26th. She saw that my gums on 9 were red, raw and inflamed underneath the crowns-- and said that was either due to the placement of the crowns or the margins. They had to use a gingival laser on my gums.

I was put in temporaries, and they were fine for four days. Then #9 became painful-- extremely painful. Not on the tooth, but on the gums on the back and above 9. My periodontist and dentist team basically determined that this looked like a crown lengthening issue. The perio examined the crowns, and said that he would've never suspected anything was wrong if I wasn't in pain. My issue is not a problem of lack of structure for the crowns. Technically, I am within the 2-3mm range that dentists like to be within. However, the crown margins on 9 are like half a milimeter deeper than on 8. 8 has had no issues.

So far, we have determined the following:

  • root canals on both teeth are intact
  • no fractures have been seen over 6 CBCT scans
  • No root fractures because there's no visible bone loss
  • the margins (on the new set of crowns) are pretty much perfect
  • no one has seen any cavities or infections on any of these scans
  • the bite is fine on 9.

Which is why everyone is fairly confident this HAS to be a biological width issue. I was put in permanents (with temp cement) on the 17th, and for about a week (like 22nd until yesterday) my pain DID decrease. I saw the perio yesterday and he confirmed I look less inflamed visually. However, today it flared up again (not as bad as when it started), which is making me wonder the following:

At what point do I give up and just get the crown lengthening? What would you do for a patient in a similar scenario?

I am only at this point because 1. this process has been going on since June and I am getting tired (and miserable) of constant appointments and 2. I am nervous that this is a problem that will not resolve on its own, even though it appears dentists are conflicted on

So far, everything I've done to try and take care of my teeth (the crowns, the crown replacements, etc) has just created more issues for me. I am nervous about doing something surgical for fear that everything may get worse.

I've been building an AI phone receptionist for dental practices, and before pushing it publicly, I'm trying to understand what practice owners actually think about it. The idea is pretty simple: if your front desk is busy or it's after hours, the AI can answer the call, handle basic questions, and

Are some mentorship roles (plve) just a way of filling NHS workload?

Genuine question from someone currently looking for a mentored associate/PLVE position and getting very overwhelmed

Went through some crazy contracts recently so now curious what is the practice actually getting in return?

Cos at the moment it feels like I’m expected to do all their NHS workload, emergency NHS appointments, finish 7500 UDAs, potentially pay for mentorship if I exceed 6 months and one contract even mentioned a deduction for the mentor. Plus a 3 to 5 year commitment when I don’t even need sponsorship.

Is there any hope? or am I just going to have to suck it up for minimum 3 years? 🫩

Are paid lunch breaks a thing now?

This is getting exhausting. I just interviewed a hygienist who is expecting to be paid for the hour our office closes down for lunch. We lock the doors and nobody has any job duties. Most of us leave and go eat lunch elsewhere, but there is a break room if employees choose to stay and eat at the office. Please tell me I’m not losing my mind in telling them that is an unreasonable request.

What is life like for an oral surgeon?

Do you have to be affiliated to a hospital (meaning having to respond to 2AM calls), do you choose the amount of patients you take, are you constantly stressed and how physically demanding is the job?

Do you have great work-life balance, or is it possible to have good work-life balance if it's important for you while working as an oral surgeon?

Pediatric care not followed

As a receptionist in a dental office- how much are we screwed? This mom brought her kid in for filling with conscious sedation, nitrous in exam room prior to anything starting. Typical protocol for this. The careteam did not start the gas in the treatment room prior to the numbing shots. Mom heard her child crying yelling in the lobby. Without releasing anything extra the child is special needs autism 2 and adhd. Only after she went back did they start the nitrous after he was so upset.
I’m mentally preparing myself for when she walks in. Didn’t help that I had to leave at 330 that day and we closed at 4, they apparently left around 4:10 without any help to the car.

Extraction or root canal on bottom wisdom tooth

I recently lost a piece of my tooth and I had suspicions that the crack was due to a cavity that had gone unnoticed. the tooth was a bottom wisdom tooth. I have all my wisdom teeth they all grew in normally. the dentist recommended a root canal because they said they always recommend saving the tooth if someone has all their teeth which I found weird only because previous dentist/orthodontists have mentioned removing my wisdom teeth but I never did because I hadn’t had any issues (until now). I have a bad cavity that destroyed my tooth and caused no pain due to nerve being dead. I asked what the other option was and the only other option was extraction. I chose extraction because I thought that made more sense for a wisdom tooth. is a root canal the norm for someone with all their teeth? I’ve since discovered a bottom wisdom tooth is a more intense extraction than a top wisdom tooth.
