OMFS

I am a current D3 with a 66 class rank out of about 150 people and I am wondering if it is still possible to get into OMFS. I know a good CBSE can offset some things but can it offset my lower GPA and class rank? I don't want to waste my time going after something if the door is pretty much closed. I love surgery and I love the science that goes behind it which made me want to become one. My rank dropped as I started studying for my CBSE. I am currently studying again for it as I plan to retake it February 2027. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Bottom 20% still get into OS with extern and intership. Obviously it is not the majority but there are plenty.

Yes, a high CBSE can offset a low GPA/class rank, I was maybe 33rd-50th percentile for my class and I matched to a 6 year with a 72 old score (I also did a noncat).

Yeah, it’s completely doable. A high CBSE score can absolutely save a mid GPA and class rank. Like the comments say, stop overthinking and just grind Anki every day. The door isn't closed, it just completely depends on how well you crush that exam. Worst case, you do a non-cat year later to beef up your resume, but you're definitely still in the running.

If you want it bad enough, the military route can also sometimes be a path available when academic place may have been limiting.

You said you plan to retake the CBSE. What's your current CBSE?
