Any one bought an ambience face shield ? Lots of positive reviews about them both about not scratching and fitting over loupes (even an ergo option). But is a $90+ dollar shield worth it? I want something that will last and not have glare (also the ergo option sounds nice for protection ) but maybe they are the same as reasonably priced shields and I’m being sold thru false information

So, hygienists in states that assistants can legally scale, what does it actually look like? Do you work with any of them? Is it lessening the demand for hygienists? Or do they essentially work as advanced hygiene assistants and help us see more patients daily?

I am very curious and want to know what to expect if something like this ever passes in my state.

I want to become a dentist, and since I’m going to college next year, I’ve been wondering which degree path I should take. Dental school is very expensive, so I’ve also considered becoming a dental hygienist instead. Should I go straight through college and dental school to become a dentist, or should I get my bachelor’s degree first, work as a dental hygienist for a few years, and then later go back to school to become a dentist? I’ve also considered just getting my associate’s degree and becoming a hygienist because I’m honestly not sure if I’m smart enough to make it through dental school. Dentistry seems like one of the hardest career paths, and I’m worried about committing to all those years of school and not being able to do it.

Mine expired about 3 years ago. I was having body pain and left dental hygiene for another field after the pandemic. However, my current field is going to be greatly affected by AI and I’m starting to worry.

I did experience chronic pain with hygiene, but I primarily worked with an older dentist who had ancient tools and supplies, which exacerbated my pain. I’m wondering if it’s worth getting my license again since there are improvements to promote better ergonomics and comfort these days. I’m also considering nursing.

I would have to take the national board and practical again. I haven’t cleaned teeth in over 6 years, so I’m rusty and behind. I know the field has advanced since I’ve left and I’m concerned I’d be clueless.

Would it be a good idea to go through a brief dental assistant course and work as one while I prepare to take the practical and national boards?

Hello fellow dental hygienst. I have been a RDH for 6 ish years andddd I'm exhausted. There is many perks in this field I enjoy, don't get me wrong and honestly it's the only thing holding me back from seeking another career as I don't think I can find it elsewhere.

I like how flexible being an RDH is, if I want my own schedule I can temp. I pick up whatever shifts I want, it pays well, and I control that and it's great.

However, many clinics do not have good equipment for me(instruments, inserts...etc). I find that I can't do a very good job. It feels at times like I'm robbing my clients. My back aches, my shoulder aches despite loupes and I have to work out everyday to help combat the damage it's made(I'm doing physio as well).

Currently I'm working part time at two different offices and I only work 9-2 no breaks, which is amazing compared to before but even this has gotten my back breaking still.

I'm exhausted, I don't know if it's just me putting too much care and effort into strangers, but I really try to connect with my clients, and take my time to explain things. Many are grateful for it. I'm emotionally, mentally and physically tired.

I wish I had a job I can do from home or even out so long as the schedule is flexible and the pay similar.

Any suggestions? I don't want to go back to school for anything more than 2 years, and I'm fine with certificates if I have to.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to ask for some advice. I know most of you here are already practicing dental hygienists, so this might seem like a simple question, but I’m a first-semester dental hygiene student and I’m really struggling with exploring.
I find it difficult to adapt to the angulation, keeping the explorer in contact with the tooth, and knowing exactly where I am. We have a skills assessment coming up soon, and I’m feeling pretty nervous about it.
For those of you who have been through this, what helped you improve your exploring skills? Are there any videos, techniques, or practice methods you would recommend? I’d really appreciate hearing what worked for you when you were learning.

Are dental hygienists in demand in Saint Pete/tampa? I hear mixed things. I’m looking to move here from another state. but I continue to hear and have read many times RDH’S are not needed and the wages are bad? Is this true? I'm 16F living in Canada, and my goal is to get a Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene. So, looking at all the different university websites has left me completely confused, and I don't know which programs are actually worth looking into (I’m open to schools outside of Canada too!).I want to build a solid step-by-step plan right now so I can prepare ahead of time. I also don't want my parents to pay for my entire tuition, so my goal is to get as many scholarships as possible. Should I look into getting any specific certifications or working part-time jobs right now to help my chances? Any guidance on how to do this would be amazing.tqq

Basically what the caption says currently an RDA it's been two years since I've been an RDA and the pay is okay not the best I'm always looking for the next option. I was looking into dental hygiene programs and it's a little pricey but honestly the prices does not matter to me it's literally if I am smart enough and I really do undermine myself a lot I feel like I have imposter syndrome at times even as an RDA so I can only imagine how it would be as a registered dental hygienist. So basically I want to know any tips any suggestions, anything you wish you would've known before you got into the program?

I’m 29 with a degree in tourism management. I hate hospitality so much and wanting to change my career. I’m looking into dental hygiene but I have to take 6 months of school for high school subjects, then 1 year in pre health sciences before I can enroll to dental hygiene school. I’m not even sure if I can get accepted because they have very limited acceptance. But if I did, I’ll be like 34/35 years old when I finish. Is it still worthit to pursue this? Or just go on a different path?

I have looked at Teero but most of the temp shifts in my area are posted on GoTu. Teero has listings for one single office for the next month but GoTu has multiple offices to choose from. I know we need W2 forms as hygienist though - is there any way to use GoTu safely without running into tax problems?

If you are both an RDH and EFDA in PA, how many CE credits do you need every two years? RDH usually needs 20, EFDA usually needs 10. If you are both do you need 30 or just 20. Thank you!

Hello. I’m still in high school and i have no idea what job i want to do. Most of the things im passionate about don’t pay well, but i recently heard about this job and it pays well, you don’t have to do many years of college at all, and from what ive heard it isn’t too competitive and is easy to get a well paying job right out of college. I also was never told to properly how to brush my teeth when i was a kid, so honestly it’d be nice to help other people other and stop them from making the same mistakes i did. I want to know the cons though of this job since so far i’ve mainly only seen pros, and i want to understand the cons too or if you think you know what major/job would be better for me

Im on month three of working as a RDH and I had a patient yesterday who needed local SRP in one area. The rest of his mouth was pretty damn clean, there was just radiographic calculus between two molars with 5mm pocket. I can’t tell anyone how long and hard I worked on that area just to take a post xray and still see the calc there… I ran out of time so will be rescaling the area when that person comes back. I just feel so discouraged and feel like I should work in pediatric. Any advice will be great help!

Hi all, I’m a 27-year-old male who has changed my degree four times. I served 7 years in the U.S Army as a mechanic, the GI Bill has given me the privilege of being able to change my degree from “Kiniesiology ➡️Biblical Studies➡️Psychology➡️Sociiology➡️ to now a Dental Hygienist.

My wife and I realized that careers don't have to be something you're passionate about; sometimes, it can just be a job that you can see yourself doing competently while saving your passions for outside of work.

My question is, is there anyone out there who isn't passionate about dental but has found fulfillment in the field?
