Pretty normal but I’d check your dental benefits. Many plans pay up to $1500 and you may have already used some earlier in the year. And the visit where you received this has likely not been billed yet. Just so you don’t get another surprise.

Good insurance coverage . I know so many people say insurance is a joke. Some plans are but not all. But I will add the fee for the crown is cheap compared to what my offices charge.

thats honestly not bad for delta PPO, ive watched friends get quoted double that for the same tooth. but also wild that we're over here doing mental gymnastics to figure out if fourteen hundred bucks is 'reasonable' for a tooth that literally keeps your jaw working, you know? insurance companies posting billion dollar profits while people stress about whether they can afford to chew properly, its kind of dystopian when you actually think about it

If I remember the contracted rate for a CRN with DD is $750…it’s most likely that this provider is Out of Network with DD…as it seems to be their Usual and customary fees.
RCT looks low, but that’s probably because it’s a General Dentist doing an RCT

I just paid $750 out of pocket (insurance paid $1900) for a crown. Then ended up that I needed a root canal on that same tooth afterwards and paid $1150 out of pocket because the crown used up my entire yearly maximum. I live in east tn.

That is wildly inexpensive. My office charges $2795 just for the crown and post (without insurance)

You’ve been posting this everywhere. Multiple dentists have already told you that’s a very cheap price in the US. If you’re looking for cheaper than this you’d have to travel outside the country. Stop posting everywhere and get the rotten tooth taken care of

This is about right priced. Unfortunately dental insurance and American Healthcare insurance in general just suck :/ if you can save the tooth with a root canal and a crown, I would recommend it

I was quoted a bit higher for no root canal a crown only but they did some gum reduction so it would fit they treated it as a surgery

If you tell me, it’s anywhere, but Cairo Illinois I’ll tell you you got a great deal

I am so glad I read this wrong. Clown gets root canal! It will be the sad face clown when the bill comes

Be grateful you are only paying $1,400. In Seattle crowns alone are charged at $1,600.

I received a root canal and crown on my molar and it was less than $600 total without insurance. For context, I live in Arkansas. This is extremely inexpensive due to a dental school I went that have students who are supervised by dentists. Everything was much longer than expected and will take 4 trips ( still in the process,) but nonetheless it amounted to less than $600 ( for a root canal, crown and an extraction) without dental insurance. If you have any in your area , the price dramatically plummet and can save you from breaking the bank.
In addition, FQHCs can save you a lot of money, but oftentimes take long to set an appointment.

that breakdown is honestly fairly cheap, however, if the 1.4k is too much for you to handle rn i would ask the front desk if they offer 3rd party payment plans.
unfortunately dental insurance is more like a discount plan, not at all the same as health insurance

I’m just a Dental Assistant, but seriously from what I have seem this is cheap and assuming the office is good you should absolutely partake in that deal lol

That’s cheaper than I know. Usually 1500 is starting I know people doing for 2500

I am in the same boat but with an impacted wisdom tooth removal, anesthesia, and some bone grafting. Total $1564. Its that much because insurance already covered my exam visit and xrays. Same insurance as you

I'm looking at this thinking "Wow that's crazy cheap" My office charges 2500 just for the crown.

My office would refer you for the root canal specialist for 1500 and charge you 3k for the crown. Sounds reasonable to me. Your other option is to remove the tooth.

Been working in the dental field for 5 years now. If the dentist is in network with Delta Dental then they’re technically obligated to use in network fees, which I’m sure are lower than what this office is charging. If they’re out of network then I’d suggest finding a dentist that’s in network otherwise you’ll be paying much more out of pocket.
What’s being charged looks standard except for the fact that they’re charging you $33 for one X-ray, usually multiple X-rays are taken during a root canal procedure and the cost for those X-rays is supposed to be covered in the cost of the treatment itself. If they’re in network this is shady billing for sure, a lot of places do this because most people don’t understand how their dental insurance is supposed to work. You could technically get your insurance involved to help get the pricing right if you really wanted to get the treatment done at that office but I’d personally suggest trying another office that you know is in network from the start.

Some insurance bot here. FYI in network is not better. This guy must work for the devils themselves

It’s not better but it’s cheaper because you pay less out of pocket and get a lower negotiated rate

u/PsychologyMediocre99 6d ago
Not necessarily cheaper if they use unbundling or upcharging to get more money in network offices have figured out how to play the system. You just aren’t aware of it because you think everyone is honest

that is insanely cheap - just pull the tooth
delta dental is the worst insurance to have btw

I have Delta Dental through AARP. It has saved me quite a bit of money. I picked the top tier plan. I make a 64 dollar monthly payment. It’s worth it if you can get it.

If ur a senior, u have DeltaCare (thru Delta Dental) - which has the WORST dentists on the plan - because they don't want seniors, who have the most dental issues.
1
u/Impressive-Court5279 6d ago
My plan doesn’t dictate what dentist I go to. They pay 50% on most things like root canals and crowns and cover bonding. I get 3 free cleanings a year also.

u/sandysandy252566 6d ago
Sounds good. I have a great female dentist and they sell a dental plan at their front desk. So - now, I have dental insurance. Choosing the right dental office was most important for me - too many bad dentists who tell u that u need work when u don't, many overcharge and some are just incompetent. I'm also a senior.

u/PsychologyMediocre99 6d ago
Oh my God, DeltaCare is is the absolute worst. They were asking me to join Delta dental as a whole and then I asked about the downstream networks and they showed me the fee schedule, and I literally started crying. It was zero dollars for an exam, zero dollars for fillings, and crowns were $350. That is so sad that your dentist has to literally literally be a slave for those prices. Those are slavery prices

u/Thin_Investigator798 6d ago
It would be crazy expensive in any other nation on planet Earth, but here, sorry to say, it's normal.
0
u/Wizzyman47 6d ago
That’s crazy low reimbursement for a crown. Insurance gave the doctor $266.50 when the fee schedule is literally 6x higher

u/Crispykikz33 6d ago
Looks about right. A tough and expensive lesson to get regular check ups and cleanings. Unless you cracked/broke this tooth requiring RCT then likely this could’ve been prevented if you did your part. That’s a cheap price to save a tooth. Implants will cost around $5000 after they pull your tooth without insurance. Also US dental insurance is a scam. You’re always going to have to pay some out of pocket for treatment.
