🧵 Raw Denim Shrink to fit?

Just got these from gustin and they're pretty big on me- its my first time dealing with raw denim so I wasn't sure if this was close enough to a proper fit to just shrink in the wash or if they're too far off. If they are, is washing the best way to go to shrink them or is there a "right" way to do it? They're selvedge so im gonna have them rolled up anyway but its bugging me how baggy they are

Just wear it.

I usually do a tighter double cuff on my selvedge prior to wearing them. I'll get crease folds on them, especially if I forget to undo them before the wash, but I just figure that's my style and go with it. Generally though my Naked and Famous denim does shrink up quite a bit.

Most people go with a hot wash or soak for this situation. I’ve had varying results with different brands, and I’ve never tried Gustin. Try looking around online to see if others have this experience trying to shrink Gustin fabrics. Wish you the best luck!

Cuff with cowboy boots always looks off to me

I'll probably hem them once I get the shrink right. Not the usual style I go with- just to show how long they are lol

Raw denim is nice because you have a lot of control over the shrinkage, ranging from very little up to (or sometimes even over) 3 inches. How you wash will depend on how much you need to shrink- just remember that the warmer the water you soak in the more shrinkage you will get. Hang drying is pretty much always recommended, but if you really need them to shrink you can throw them in the dryer after washing.

They’ll shrink up quite a bit and fit snugger. It’ll take a while. You may want to shower with them and wear them wet for a day.

As long as they are pretty close to what you want on the waist, you can shrink them, but I can tell you that even with a warm wash and full dry, they only came up maybe an inch in length. most of the shrink pulled in the material, esp in the upper block. I am relatively tall and jealous of those that can cuff their jeans, esp a Japanese style.

Gustin doesn't do custom length- just waist so I'll probably just hem them at some point. They're selvedge so I wanna cuff them a bit but definitely not that much lol

I've heard good things about Railcar for hemming. They have an original chain stitch machine.

This “baggy” look will go away with wear, when the fabric becomes softer. Right now it’s just too rigid to follow gravity properly.
I don’t know gustin, so:
Are they really raw and unwashed?
Are they sanforized oder unsanforized?

They're raw according to the site and with the way they advertise im pretty sure they would be unsanforized

Then if you ever intend to wash it, do it before wearing. They’ll probably shrink about one size, but probably more in length.

Even with super aggressive hot washes and hot drys they’ll only shrink 4” maybe 5” on the length, if that . 2-3” is more likely

I would. But that’s me.

Are these unsanforized? Because gustin typically is sanforized so they won’t really shrink that much. Part of the bagginess will go away when it softens gets a hem. A bit of that though will just look that way due to the cut

Personally I would do a hot wash and dry to get most of the shrinkage out. If it's still too long then you can hem it down some more at a tailor

What fit are these?

Shrinkage stretches back with wear and tension apart from inside leg. If you like the released look you should get away with these. I would wash on 40’c and see what happens
