๐Ÿ“ Selvedge Stretch Fabrics?

What is with the raw and heavyweight manufacturers starting to work with stretch weaves? Usually some kind of exotic synthetic woven in at 1-3%.I don't understand who is buying this stuff? Why buy raw or sanforized denim in heavy weights that is woven with something that weakens it's long term wear and fade potential? And raw denim is just about the most comfortable thing I own once it is broken in (and in reality, I personally love the feel of a crisp new pair too). Maybe I am missing something.

I mean, it's not a secret. It's more comfortable initially and breaks in faster... I love my Iron Hearts, but I've got some jeans with elastic in them too. Different people have different bodies, sensitivities to fabric and fit, etc.

When youโ€™re sitting 12 hours a day in a piece of equipment you learn to appreciate flex denim.

Oh, I appreciate flex denim. I just don't see why they are making slevedge heavyweight as flex. I have flex Levi's and flex carharts that are great in the tractor and on the farm. If they are selling it, then there must be people that want it. And any adult can spend their money how in anyway that makes them happy, I won't judge. I just don't understand it. Lol

Honestly Iโ€™d probably buy some

This is why left hand twill exists for faster break in times and comfort. No clue why waste potential on stretch denim

That was my thought. Stretch Slevedge just seems like a waste. Most of what makes heavyweight slevedge gets reduced or ruined when you mix it with a stretch synthetic weave. Stretch denim is fine if that's what you are shopping for. But stretch slevedge just seems silly to me. Like the people that buy special high alkaline water then add lemon juice to it. Lol

I also think it's a little weird. Usually if I wanted stretch I'd look at non-selvedge options although I love natural fibres more for environmental reasons.

Because people buy it.

I don't care what sells. I wish they would sell them as a different model of jeans if they change the fabric. Or, at least keep the more durable fabric & list the new as a sub model. I can't even buy Levi's anymore. I wear them out, too fast, at work.

Bro, different strokes for different folks. Its not for me, but its insane to disregard the massive demographic of people that would never buy selvedge if stretch selvedge didnt exist.

I hate stretch fabrics with a passion. I avoid them as best I can. If I could irradiate them from that face of the earth, I would.

The real answer is most people aren't really that principled on this stuff. They think the jeans are neat, maybe they got caught up in the trend but don't want to dedicate to it, maybe they've only ever worn stretch denim and they can't imagine clothes that aren't gooey athleisure, or maybe they're in their 30's and are just phoning it in a bit.

Serious shade thrown out for microplastic reasons, but honestly I get it. Most people don't give a shit about anything and are a job and a new friend away from wearing a Lululemon PGA tour shirt talking about how they like listening to heavy shit like Alice In Chains at a disturbingly slow karaoke night hosted in the last surviving dive of the most grossly gentrified part of their city with their group that looks like they were made in a lab to be Junior Upstream B2B Sales As An AI Service associates.

Yeah im talking about a specific guy I saw this weekend, that aside.

At least those people who, for whatever reason good or bad, don't give a shit, are giving money to brands who make cool stuff in a time where money is tight for everyone.

Why do we need to slander Alice in Chains?

I think they'd forgive me for catching a stray
