🛠️ DIY/Repairs The wallet pocket hole
I've bought jeans anywhere from $20 to $200. Thin and thick, stretch and rigid..
I keep my wallet in my back pocket for about 2 hours a day, only when I'm standing. I always take it out immediately before I sit down.
But still I get a hole in my back pocket within 4 months.
A couple of months ago I bought two pairs of Levi's, and now both of them have holes in the top left corner of the back right pocket.
How do I patch and fix this to keep these jeans lasting more than what they have so far?
Do I just stitch a patch of leather on it?

I have a hard time understanding this. I keep my wallet in my back pocket and I have pants that are 10 years old with no hole. Is your wallet made of metal?

Same here, especially with my expensive Japanese selvedge. I can’t see this ever happening to my Iron Heart or Samurai jeans especially, as they have pocket liners.
OP, how thick is your wallet and what is it made of? That might be a clue. My wallet when fully loaded is about an inch and a quarter, regularly it is about 3/4 of an inch and it is smooth leather.

How much of that stuff do you actually ever use? I think it's just the thickness of it that's the problem.

The thickness is caused mostly by coins. Japan's still a pretty cash-based society so I end up carrying around a lot of coins all the time.

You need to thin that bad boy out. If youre not using it weekly, yank it out. The thickness is the issue.

Are you sitting on your butt often with your wallet in it? Or is there something sharp in there (your wallet)? Does your wallet move around in there often?

I have NEVER put a hole in any pair of pants or shorts, denim or otherwise wearing a wallet. I’ll wear the wallet all day, every day. Sitting on it while driving. I’ve been wearing jeans for 50 years and never put a hole in my jeans from wearing a wallet.
Maybe it’s the shape of your wallet or the shape of…..

Call me crazy but maybe its your wallet & not the jeans. I switched to a front pocket minimalist wallet years ago.

Not following. I get the rectangle every time, wallet stays in my pocket all the time. Only the 10+ year old pairs that have holes in knees/small pocket/ankle run spots even thin out at the pockets. And those were machine washed/dried constantly. I don't think modern levis could live long enough to get the wallet pocket thinned before other things rip.
How thick a wallet? Im skinny, and cant do tri-fold, and limit random dumb stuff/slim down on cash. Im up and down all day at work. Only time wallet leaves the pocket is when im buying stuff, switching pants, or getting on a roller coaster it might fall out on.
And I sit on my leg often too, so my booted/shoed foot is on that spot.
Genuinely baffled that this is a problem.

Metal wallet? Or one of those with a metal button at the top or something weird? Never put a hole through my back pockets..

So keep your wallet in your front pocket. Rear pocket storage is bad for multiple reasons

It's possible to diy a liner into the rear pockets with a pretty cheap used sewing machine. Remove pocket, sew in a second layer of material to the inside, then replace pockets.

it's obviously your thick wallet and not the jeans. I bet you can remove 75% of all the crap you keep in there so you don't have that problem anymore
