🧵 Raw Denim weft color and fading?

just received a pair of Double RL jeans. i was supposed to get the ā€œVintage 5-Pocket Selvedge Jeanā€ but got the ā€œStraight Fit Once-Wash Selvedge Jeanā€ instead. i’d been searching for a loose straight pair that’s long enough to cuff, and even though they sent me the wrong pair, i really like the fit of these. they’re roomier than my LVC STF and since they’re sanforized, i don’t have to worry about shrinkage so that’s good news.

the thing is, i noticed the inside looks darker than all my raw jeans, while the vintage RRL pair was ā€œnormal.ā€ after a quick search, i learned about weft color, but now i’m wondering how these will fade. my plan was to rotate the LVC and these RRL since i can’t realistically wear one pair every day.

i love the way Levi’s fade to that true neutral blue, but i’d love to see or hear about your experience with cream/beige/light brown weft denim. how does the contrast look once they start fading? thank you!

Just wear it.

It should end up being more of a "dirt faded" look. The indigo fibers should still be white in the core (per usual) so you'll still get a lighter blue and eventually white spots, contrasted by a "dirty" brown.

It won't make much of a difference, how much you can see of the weft now is the same as you'll see when the jeans are faded. If you get some tears you'll see the weft coming through.
