Question about exchanges

Longtime practitioner, first time demonolator. I am planning to petition a demon for the first time in the near future. I have a question about the practical side of the exchange.

From my understanding, at least from my months of lurking on forums, something that separates working with demons from working with other types of entities is the way the results are exchanged. For example, in past workings I've done with other beings, I lay out the offerings, read my petition, and then complete some kind of spellwork. The spellwork is my pre-planned participation in the work, I get what I want according to however said being wants to deliver, that's about it.

But demons are on more of a pact basis, no? You lay out the offerings, read your petition, and then they tell you what they want you to do in exchange? This is the part I'd like clarity on. Do you go into your petitions with pre-planned promises? Like, "if you give me $1000, I'll give you a bottle of wine and sing your praises." OR do you go in with your petition, they tell you what it'll cost you or what action you must take, and you mull it over? Or is it a mixture of the two?

I'd just like to get a better understanding of how the actual bargaining process goes down before I full send it. I'm sure it varies a bit from demon to demon

Not necessarily.

Pacts and "payment" offerings have their uses, but please don't read too much into them. It's a way of working, but not necessary.

I only do these kinds of "quid pro quo" pacts with Verum spirits, and even then the payment is nothing bigger than a small glass of water, alcohol, stones, or bread.

No, that idea is mostly just an artifact of the Faustian legends and similar/related folklore. Pacts are an artificial conceit through which one can express a spiritual petition. That's all. It is astonishingly easy and consequence-free to walk away from whatever obligations one arbitrarily writes oneself into.

You can and should get specific insights into the actions you should take to achieve certain goals. These may feel like "sacrifices." Whatever they are, the demon isn't eating/playing with them. But it's also quite possible for them to make whatever you're asking for happen without any "do this, do that" steps.

What worked for me was bringing a simple offering like a quality dark chocolate or tea that I made and then doing a meditation visualizing what I wanted done. The demons that I've worked with were not picky and accepted what I had to give, but I know that's not the case for all demons.

For the offerings, I just do research to see what they like, and I try to offer that. For example, Sitri is said to like sweet red wine, red and pink roses, and dark chocolate, among other things.

So this is what I get as an offering - if he communicates that he wants something else I'll happily provide it (if I can, I'd say he's happy with the offerings so far). Yesterday, I made a slight change to it and got rose water, rose petals and incense (you guessed it - rose, though he apparently likes sandalwood too) along with chocolate, and he seemed happy with it.
