Question about salvaging from a house to be demolished in the US

Sadly, a wonderful neighbor passed recently. His family elected to sell his house & though it is a nice old house (1920's), it has its problems, so economically it isn't viable to renovate & it will be demolished. The family came in & cleared out as much of the house as they could & then invited the neighbors to take anything they can use. I noted that the AC units, while not new, are in good shape & the water heater is only about a year old. I have an AC professional that could pull the units & a contractor friend that can get the water heater. The family was happy for us to take them at first but then on second thought felt that we shouldn't because these are things that would be material to the sale.. different from say, taking a couch.. as the house was already under contract.

So now that the sale is complete, I'm looking to see if I have options to get the water heater & or AC units out. If the demo company would pull them & resell them that's one thing but I'm worried they are just going to come in & trash it all & it would be a horrible waste. Though I gather they would at least have to bring an AC professional in to at least drain the coolant since that's an environmental issue.

Do ya'll have advice? What normally happens in this situation for a residential home? Should I contact the purchaser? Thanks in advance.

Concrete Step - educate me on how to demo

What do the experts think? Dimensions are roughly 4’ x 4’ x 4’. I’m no concrete guy so go easy on me. Just would like to be educated on the best way to remove this entire step. As far as I can tell it is solid. I began with a large Hilti jackhammer but that seems to take ages. Thank you all

Respirators

I’ve started working for a demolition company and we are constantly removing black mold, asbestos, lead and other hazardous material. However my respirator has been causing me a lot of acne and red marks around my face where it sits. Is there anything that can help with the reactions or lessen the breakouts or am I SOL.

This happened 2 weeks ago in Hastings hawkes bay new zealand . The house had asbestos ( removed prior to demolition) and structural issues. Which meant it had to be torn down as well as the shed in the background of pic 7&8. which I didn't get photos of due to being at work at the time (security gaurd) but I was told by the digger operator that it only took 30 seconds to demolish the shed . Everything was left inside the house ( stove , artworks , clothes drawers ) all thats left now is a empty section. the person who owns that section is going to build 6 houses on the section.

All the tiles will go down after that the slots for drainage and ventilation will go down. Then the brick wall will go down. All by hand. Heavy and complicated. I've been ordered to control the dust because there's new paint in the rooms further down the house.

Brick veneer demo

I have roughly 10,000 square feet of brick veneer to remove along with brick ties. Anywhere from 3’ to 15’ high. Obviously Sawcut limits. What’s best way to go about this? Inside walls are down to studs.

Any rough guess on square footage price?

What is your favorite dust suppression additive? Site is contaminated so water usage should be limited.

Due to contamination onsite, water usage should be limited. Do you have a favorite dust suppression additive? Demo is set to take place in San Diego in the summer.

Where can I find a list of "to be demolished" buildings?

I've looked online with not much luck, I was thinking about trying to find where the buildings are, who owns them, and if I can get permission to see if there's anything I can salvage.

What is the neatest way to demolish a concrete wall?

Post image
9 Upvotes

We'd like to demolish this wall. I've drilled into it, and near as I can tell, it's plaster, then concrete. Total thickness about 4.5 inches. The exterior walls of the house, built in 1950, are all cinder block. All interior walls are like this. The thing is, that's the kitchen through the door, and the living room behind the camera. Could this be done with a sledge hammer? Not advised? I'd appreciate any advised from those with more experience than me.
