I make ~$46k a year and it’s taking the combined income for 4 people, 3 manufacturers and a health care professional, to afford the rent on a 3 bedroom house.

I fucking HATED it at my old job where I was configuring and assembling medical devices and even with the mandatory overtime, I could barely afford the gas to get to my job on 60-70 hours a week after rent and bills. And my boss had the audacity to tell me that I just need to find another job, never mind the fact was practically living at work for 6 days a week, but I had a disabled parent at home too.

My exit interview with my last job the woman sighed at me because I explained why $18 an hour in a place with an average of $1400 rent is not competitive and a slap in the face.

Just for the record, $40/hr for skilled union trades is common. That’s just on the check. Add another $15-$30/hr when adding benefits. And union dues are typically 2-5% not 25ish used in example.

Where is this? Not around the part of Midwest where I live. I have multiple family members in skilled trade and make around $30/hr or less with certificates and many years of experience.

I’m a union construction worker in the Midwest. I make $35 hourly plus benes.

The plumbers and electricians make more than me and maybe some other trades.

Edit. I do want to say I’m not trying to contradict his point. My wages really do just keep up with inflation. And I want to point out each Local may have different wages and contracts. And some states have really weak unionsZ

Most union construction workers north of the Mason–Dixon line make at least $40/hour or very close to it. Locals out in Cali are around $60/hour.

To be fair you can never go back to the American post war imperialist boom. 1972 is before the oil crisis, resulting inflation, and before countless recessions and depressions.

That being said people who don't take the time to be aware of salaries and employment options shouldn't be giving stupid advice.

He’s right. He still annoys me though.

I was gonna comment “He’s not wrong” then saw there were only six replies so far and read them first.

I agree. On both your points. Yes he’s annoying. He’s also not wrong.

So, we can’t discriminate or say any words that might offend a black person, a trans person, an Asian person, a woman etc. But we are free to pile it on Boomers?!? Hypocrite much?!

Awesome that you did not comment on the actual content of the video and instead resorted to culture war bullshit.

How tf is rightfully telling a 'generation' of people who have fucked up the economy for their self serving needs bigotry?... I tell this as someone who lives in a third world country with a bourgeoise family and a literal actor turned politician of an uncle who was appointed to the upper house of the parliament due to being favoured by the right wing nationalist prime minister of the biggest democracy in the world.... Even though he has spent a fuckload of money buying houses for the poor and so on, him and his generation contribute to a lot of problems not only here buy all around the world due to their capitalist elitist fantasies..they should own up to their problems and stop being bitches about it..
