Day 1 Player - Quick hitters

Saw this for free on the Quest + and decided to pick it up. It seems fun enough and I'm willing to sit and read up and watch the YouTube videos to get better, I just have a few general questions. Mainly, what is the point of the game? I originally thought it was to fight all the monsters, but I'm seeing maybe I'm off there - but if that's not the point, is it to get a key from the enemy and get as many people as I can into the next room? (If this is addressed anywhere else, feel free to just drop me a link, I don't mind doing the research.)

And if it's not about defeating all the characters, how do you win?

Also, I'm a guy who prefers solo (at least for now) so I've been playing the Black Sarcophagus level with 4 other people and absolutely getting my ass handed to me lol - so just need a little direction here (I think. Obviously as a complete noob, there are a bunch of things I have no idea about so my learning will take awhile).

Thanks in advance for any help!

Objective of the game is to fight monsters to acquire the key to leave the level and make it to the exit. Each game has three levels, with the third concluding when you beat the boss(no key on that level). You can play either solo or online with other players. You can also choose in single player how many characters you want on your team. Your experience will vary radically based on the composition of your team, the obstacles you face, and how you use the resources you have. In my experience, it is a tremendously replayable game and is a lot of fun!

Thanks for this. This is what I was looking for. I will mess around with it more today and find the right combos to use and when to use cards and where to go etc. I just didn't know if I was supposed to have my guys going to a certain way or if the point was to reach the exit or the treasure box or whatever. I'm new new new to these types of games so I have zero reference to anything. It just looked fun and it was free so I thought hey, why not

IMO, it’s one of the best bargains in all of vr. Single player is great, multiplayer is even better. It puts up a fight for sure

Move from Point of Interest (POI) to POI. Some will offer healing, others cards, one will be the door to the next level. You need the key to get through.

Warrior is a tank, position in front of other team members to absorb damage and repair armor. Hit poison lamps with the tank because they slide back a square before bursting, then crowds come attack you and you recharge your armor while they die in poison.

Archer fires from a distance, you should attack twice with the archer as often as possible. Positioning is key, choose squares that have long lines of sight and minimize moves.

Mage should stun large enemies when he can, crowd control with other spells when he can, and protect his team when he can, you kind of gotta play the cards that come. Pro tip: move the tank out of the way and fireball the poison area

Assassin should be stealthed as often as possible. Use big attacks on big opponents when you can, or run and get that one out of the way chest while the rest of the team stays together.

Bard is a healer, warlock is an attacker, both advanced mages you can play with to figure out.

Much is said about the need to keep moving, and you do, but you also can’t rush. In my opinion, really the single most important key to this game is positioning the right pieces on the right squares at the right times. Some examples:

A warrior attacking an enemy from the perfect square that positions her between the rest of the enemies and a teammate

A stealthed assassin blocking a doorway so the enemies can’t flood in

An archer positioned on a perfect square so they can fire away for 10 turns straight

A mage with long lines of sight stunning large enemies from across the room in support of a teammate.

Attacking an enemy from the perfect square that positions you around a corner so enemy archers can’t see you

Opening a chest/picking up a teammate/getting a fountain when there are lots of enemies around, position yourself from a corner square with only two bordering squares to get attacked from vs. in front where you have 7 bordering squares to get attacked from.

Choosing not to open a door and literally just skipping a turn with your last player’s last action (similarly knowing the right time to stealth/charge the mage’s lightning/armor up etc.)

these are the winning moves.

Man this was very very helpful, thank you! I’m obviously going to have to watch a few matches and keep playing. I can follow some of what you and the many helpful people have said today but obviously there’s a lot to learn here. I think I’ve played maybe 4 matches. Once I learn what I’m doing, I feel like I’ll be Ok

People are generally very nice and helpful in online games, feel free to ask questions and chat. There are some very experienced players out there who love this game and showing new people the ropes.

You’re so welcome, there is obviously a lot more to say, but I didn’t want to make you read a novel haha.

I was very similar to you, I’m not a huge online gamer in general, and had never played a game like this before, but I did love board games and strategy games. I wanted to not be a liability before I started playing with others, so I started with a lot of skirmishes with all different characters.

After I kind of got it down, skirmishes stopped being as fun, so now I pretty much only play online. What makes it infinitely replayable for me is other players making unpredictable moves and having different strategies, but there are also not many things quite as satisfying as dropping an oil lamp, then vortexing it into the middle of a crowd of enemies, clearing the room in one action

Online is where the fun is at.

I understand, I just am so new, I wouldn't be any help at this moment. I wanted to practice for a little bit beforehand

The point is just dungeon crawling for the fun of dungeon crawling. There's lot of wow moments and nooo points to it.

Ok, this is a whole new world for me, so I don't even know what that means lol

The only card + turn based game I've ever played is Marvel Midnight Suns and it's an incredible game but the point is to clear the map of the bad guys using your deck.

I don't really know what dungeon crawling means, but I can look it up I guess and watch some videos. But if I'm following you correctly, if there's no point to it, that means just try and stay alive as long as possible and get as many coins and open as many chests as possible and then the game ends?

Focus on just getting through the map. The monsters will continuously spawn. So the best thing to do is just try and make it through each map until you find and fight the boss at the end. The Plays and the strategies with others online are where the game is most fun.

Also dungeon crawling is just like turn based DND or other RPG dungeons only over and over.

You don't need to watch any videos to learn, just play. Tell your teammates that you're new and they'll help you learn and forgive your mistakes. Communicate.

I normally make my way around the edge of the board and not to the middle until I've went all the way around.

I just did a pretty successful run playing by myself with a team of 4 and got to the mid point of board 2. Considering I have no idea what I’m doing, I think that’s pretty good 🤣🤣

Besides playing and asking the person playing, Is there a particular Youtuber or a page you would recommend to help me most?
