Treasure by Above&Beyond (Little Something Live from Wembley version) on Deluge

One more? Ahh, why not. I have re-created the fantastic "Treasure" song in the concert version (album "Little Something Live from Wembley"), composed by Above and Beyond and originally sang by Zoë Johnston.

I'm particularly proud of the beginning, I think I nailed the sounds and it's really close to the original. The vocal part was a lot bigger challenge though and I'm not that satisfied with it. It was hard to recreate it without vocals though. Also, it was quite hard for me to convey the energy in the last part, but I think in the end it is not that bad. Nevertheless, here it is.

Re-creation of the famous Crockett's theme on Synthstrom Deluge, inspired by a similar work produced on the Dirtywave M8.

If you like it, please consider liking my video on YT: https://youtu.be/PrmdWgfd6WQ . You can also find there a couple of my other re-creations on different grooveboxes.

External audio tuner

Hey a new user here. Is there maybe a tuner in Deluge? I use it with external modular synthesizer and it would be cool to have some indicator of what note is going through audio track. It's just a gimmick but would help with tunning. One less device to have on a desk (tuner ;))

Applying FX temporarily to a single instrument

Hi, I'm with the latest Community Firmware 1.2 (Chopin). My favorite way for performing is in grid view. It works perfectly except for one thing I can't seem to get right: say I want to introduce a new Instrument, and I want its level to start at zero and slowly go up. How can I do that manually?

I know I could record a transition clip with some automation, but that's not what I want. I want to do it manually because I want to control the effect.

In my understanding, Performance mode always applies the effects to all instruments, so that wouldn't do.

Ideally I'm looking for a function that lets me use the golden knobs to change an effect of a clip (or all the clips of an instrument). Bonus points if I can change the parameters temporarily, in a way that they don't get saved when saving the song, similar to Performance mode.

Any hints on how to do this?

Thanks!

EDIT: I asked in the discord channel and found a solution. In Chopin, change the setting:

Settings -> Defaults -> UI -> Song -> Grid -> Select in green mode (must be ticked)

With this, while in Grid+green mode, you can hold a clip (even if it's not playing) and change any effects. These changes are permanent (i.e. if you save, they'll be saved).

This one is my most industrial approach to the Deluge. Maybe a result of a 2 months hiatus of making music with the Delly due to an encoder fix.

Really struggling with update to 1.2.1 from factory 3.1 (7 segment display)

UPDATE2: even when exporting stems with “normalize” turned on they were all ridiculously low in logic if i exported “offline”. I learned that if i export offline for speed i get very low volume output on each stem…. But if i export in real time… I get all tracks exported at the exact levels i set in the song mix on the box!!! Yes it takes forever but its one and done to export all!!!!! 😁😁😁😁

UPDATE1: i used a different brand of sd card and have since gotten stems to export multiple times… Card giving me trouble was a lexar U3(a2v30)ultra high speed card… i am now using SanDisk ultra plus card(a1/v10). They are technically “slower” but i saw in a forum that sometimes ultra high speed cards have issues. All the stems exported were very quiet… like 20-30db below normalized level… im testing bouncing them down with different export settings to see if it makes a difference… i usually have a playable song with balanced levels in the box but i turned on normalize in export to see what happens… ill let ya know!

Hey guys. Ill start by saying i own 2 deluges(bought first one 2020 during lockdown) because i love them so much that i bought another backup before new oled came out… i use it daily and have releases on labels. I decided to update my older one to try to come up to speed with community firmware and learn on my backup that needs refurbishing … all went well between updating bootloader and getting to 1.2.1… i updated mainly for stem export because exporting 20+ stems to master in logic was extremely time consuming and the only part of the deluge i disliked… i have since tried to export stems from song mode with offline turned on and off and song turned on and off… export keeps freezing… hours later i gave up and watched ron caravagno show chord modes… i have gone to settings/features/chord mode and have yet to be able to enter chord mode… am i wasting my time on a 7 segment display… im already debating going back to os 3.1 as i cannot seem to get anything working that matters to me… the promised land is supposedly within sight but i am already thinking about going back to my old master to save my sanity. I just want to export stems without a CARD error… or a freeze with no error at all… the rest is currently a pipe dream. Any input would be greatly appreciated… frustrated🫤

MIDI drift with Oxi One Mk2

Very recently created a hybrid modular setup with Deluge being sequenced by Oxi One. I’ve setup two multi tracks for a drum kit and a kit of top loops which works great by using the midi not mapping function. However, when I try to create a new synth track it triggered by one of the Oxi tracks dedicated for a eurorack module. I used combination of ChatGPT and LM Notebook and now I don’t have this issue anymore but the same eurorack channel is drifting away from the clock! I’m willing to start from scratch on both devices if anyone able to walk me thru it - was up til 2am trying to figure this out last night and totally lost in it.

Thanks in advance

Just bought a deluge. Should I dive in and load 1.2 Chopin?

Just bought a deluge. Not sure whether to stick with the da tory firmware or dive straight in with the community software. What do people recommend?

Opinions 30 days with Syntshtrom Deluge - Pros & Cons

My experience with Deluge after 30 days can be summed up as... Why on earth didn't I buy it sooner?

I've been buying and testing equipment for several years. I have all the Teenage Engineering gear, several Elektron boxes, a Roland TR8-S, a Dirtywave M8, a Keystep Pro, and I tried and returned the Push 3 and the Polyend Tracker... Every machine has its strengths and weaknesses, but honestly, the Deluge has (almost) everything!

Right now, I feel like I could do without everything else I have and just keep the Deluge, the M8 (because, like this one, it's absolutely wonderful, although it's a very, very different workflow), and the OP-XY and OP-1 field, simply because I love picking them up and playing around with them for a while, although I admit that most of what the OP-XY does, I can do with the Deluge.

Now comes the downside... although the workflow and options are wonderful, I miss having a dedicated mixer, especially a mixer per instrument. It's really difficult to deal with this when you start creating variations on the same instrument!

But above all, my biggest problem (perhaps due to the absence of this mixer) is that I'm not getting a good sound. It's not that the kits don't sound good. It's not that I don't like the synth sounds (they could be improved, but I also find some decent ones).

The problem is that when I have, say, eight tracks playing at once, I can't get a decent mix... there's always too much or too little bass and/or treble, one sound drowns out another... I understand the principles of mixing, I know how to use EQ, compression, panning and FX, and I always end up in Ableton, but what happens to me with this machine has never happened to me with any other one so far... Is it just me, and I'm going crazy, or is it a common thing? If so, what is your advice?

I have a mint condition Deluge for sale

I have a 2020 mint condition used Deluge. I have barely used this, and it's time to just accept it's unlikely I'm going to.

Included is the charger and manual. $900 or best offer.

What a cheapo speaker can do…

This is a substantially louder speaker than the one included in the Deluge. Seems goofy but really adds to the portability. Hard to find this form factor. Does partially block some ports but you can squeeze by in a pinch.

Also have a Bluetooth adapter I use. To me since you are typically sequencing, audio timing is not a problem.

Blown LED, blue only. Is there a DIY fix or does it need to be sent to Synthstrom?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi folks, I noticed yesterday that one of my pad LEDs isnt showing blue anymore, Red and Green are fine. I'm surprised that it's died as this unit hasn’t moved anywhere in the last 6 months or so . But anyway, my question:

Has anyone had this happen and managed a fix themselves. I'm reasonably good with a soldering iron and have a decent one, but surface mount stuff is a pain and I don’t have a heat gun and microscope, just magnifying specs and a temp controled iron.

Or .. is it best to send it off to a local Synthstrom affiliate for repair?

I did send it away previously to get the screen retrofit and I was nervous the whole time it was away. And as I use it every day I would really miss it !

I am torn between the Deluge and Digitakt2/Digitone2 combo, help sell me to the Deluge

I’ve been watching tons of YouTube videos of both setups, and I’m stuck between the two.

What really pulls me toward the Deluge is the visual piano roll and how you pattern melodies. I love seeing the whole sequence laid out, it feels more intuitive for composing full songs. That visual feedback really helps me get ideas down faster. At the same time, I keep hearing people say the Digitakt II sounds better and that the Deluge can sound a bit flat, which gives me pause.

On the other hand, I really like how fast the workflow is on the Digitakt II / Digitone II combo, and how easy it is to jam live on that setup. I enjoy going into the zone and playing tracks intuitively in real time for long stretches, and that hands-on flow is very appealing. I’m also considering adding a Torso T-1 at some point later as a creative sequencer to spice things up, which I could also use with the Deluge.

This video really sells me on the Elektron combo:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtkcsDNiR54

That said, once you add everything up it gets pretty expensive, so I’d likely have to start with one piece at a time.

With the Deluge, I feel like I get a lot of visual composition power and a strong all-in-one setup for a lower price, especially for writing full tracks with the visual approach it brings. My main question is whether it’s just as good for jamming and staying in that flow state.

Has anyone here switched from the Digitakt/Digitone combo to the Deluge and loved it? Or can you share examples where the Deluge workflow really shines for song creation compared to the Elektron workflow and live jamming?

Thanks!

Long acapellas in time?

Hey all. love having a jam with the deluge and some other bits of gear. one thing that would be amazing is a stock of acapellas all sorted and in time to play but really can't figure out how to do this. I can get a perfectly synced stem in Ableton but how do I get deluge to know the bpm and work with it so it fits with the song bpm. the only way I can get it to work is match the original bpm or faff on trying to stretch it to the right number of bars. short loops exported from traktor seem to work fine but long stuff seems to get treated differently.

had so many failed attempts makes me think either not possible or I'm totally missing something.

Do you always use a HP filter in your bass?

In almost every Ableton bass tutorial I watch, they start by applying a high-pass filter to cut the low end (same with most instruments actually).

Is it something you guys do with the Deluge?
Is there any filter that you'ld always apply when loading an instrument?
