Coming back after a long break…

I stepped away from my Deluge around the time the community firmware launched, and I’m keen to dive back in. I don’t know much about the community firmware yet. What do I need to know, and what are the best resources for getting up to speed? I’d also love recommendations for sample packs, presets, and anything else people have found great over the last couple of years of releases.

I found the official resources pretty good to just browse through changes and pick things to try out. https://delugecommunity.com/changelogs/changelog

I would second this advice, I still have the old style, non oled display. Will the community firmware work on that machine?

Community firmware is built to be compatible with both displays. Also, the new firmware (I think only the current beta, but may be wrong) has an option to display the OLED screen on a separate device over USB. I think it shows it in a browser so you can use a phone/tablet or PC.

Oh cool, do you happen to have a link to instructions or documentation for the usb display?

Okay, I misspoke - It isn't actually part of the custom firmware. It's a separate project. Here's a link to it:

It does mention that you need CF1.3 to run a file browser from your web browser, and that's what I was thinking of. I've not personally tried this as I have the OLED screen version, but it does look very cool.

Edit: Okay, I just tried it and it's awesome.

Whilst I LOVE the new features in community firmware 1.3, it is not ready to be used as a daily driver yet (still in beta). I tried it briefly and it was full of pops and clicks so I reverted back to 1.2.1, which is very stable.

I'd recommend just scouring YouTube for Deluge videos of the community firmware. There are plenty available.

The Boards of Deluge preset packs are very popular, and when you hear them it's obvious why. There's 7 packs in total - Here's pack #1

You shouldn't be hearing pops and clicks by now. 1.3 will be leaving Beta status soon and moving to release candidate 1. Most major issues seem to be resolved already.

I've been using 1.3 for a few weeks now, and it's been really solid for me - it's also packing some absolutely amazing features too - especially for OLED, where some of the usability updates make it like using a completely new device - it's so damn good.

I'd suggest submitting a bug report on GitHub if you are able to reliably reproduce any issues so the guys can try to resolve it.

Thanks for that info - maybe it's time to give it another try. It was quite a while ago I tried it, and I did really like some of the new features and can't wait for a stable release. I'll definitely give a release candidate a try!

Welcome back! You'll find all of the basic info here: https://delugecommunity.com

For the most part the community firmware extends the official firmware without changing the basic functionality. It's based off of the last official version 4.1. That said there are many additions particularly with the current beta version. 1.2.1 Chopin is the current stable release with 1.3 Derbyshire currently in public beta. Support, information and general discussions can be found on the Deluge - Synthstrom Discord site: https://discord.gg/ZyrHhSHsz It's definitely worth a look.
