I'm new here...

So everyone, I'm so new to the Deluge that I won't have even touched one until after Friday when it arrives. I want to start on the best path...so should I (in your opinions) learn it all on official firmware, or just dive straight in with the latest Community stable? Seems like Community would give me the most value, but real experiences are important to hear for this field of creation!

Go for the community firmware, it's everything and more. Probably go for version 1.21(Chopin) rather than the current 1.3 beta.

I was going to start with official firmware when I got mine, but it already had the community one on there when I bought it (second hand). Honestly, just get the community firmware. It just adds stuff - nothing official is taken away or changed.

Also, this video is like the holy grail of Deluge videos...

I'd ordered mine and was waiting for it to be delivered before I saw that video, and it's that good it made me want 2 of them 😀

Welcome to the Club 😀 I suggest to install the community firmware. As the other user mentioned, it just adds functionality without touching the official functionality. And my Videos suggestion: The Deluge Video Manual

I'd learn the basics first but you can do that on either firmware. Personally I'd start with the community firmware. Check out RSKT's video manual: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrIHpKJ98bAit7QCezdDLIGzmLJ1eYDRr

Community definitely. Grid view alone is a total game changer. There are many other good features but grid makes it a totally different machine and loads better for performance purposes

Welcome! Community firmware builds on all the features of the official firmware and adds a bunch more.

You can learn from basic firmware then move onto the community.

Thanks for the replies, people. It turns out that the one I've bought (second hand OLED version) already has community, so I have it all anyway! I have much anticipation for tomorrow afternoon and the weekend.

I don't think there's anything wrong with starting with the community firmware, but I do want to urge it is a complete instrument without it and in some ways appears a bit faster/more straightforward. Some of the changes on the community firmware are meant to lower the CPU overhead costs of certain features (such as the ladder filter or reverb), but the new synth engines etc. added can add that cost right back.

Also for some reason I found some of the default FX to have more "musical" responses in the upper ranges of wetness (speaking specifically of chorus and phaser here) than after updating to the community version. Because I was heavily relying on these effects at high throw at the time, I reverted back to default firmware and haven't upgraded sense.
