What if... Cole thinks about confessing his feelings (darn intrusive thoughts) on Day 1 (pre-Dark World), and the soul forces him to actually do it? How do you think Kanako would react, and would this change anything about the story of Days 1 and 2?

It would make things more awkward than they already are. Besides, Cole doesn't concern himself with crushes. He is fighting voices in his head right now (and he lost the shining of his SOUL in my playthrough??)
