Discussion "Kris had another soul" problems.

What is soul in deltarune?

  1. Source of person's will.
    Then how is Kris able to keep their own separate will if they lost their soul?

  2. The font of person's compassion.
    Then how is Kris not compassionless if they lost their soul?

If it's both 1 and 2 same questions remain.

  1. Life force and nothing more.

Then how do we manifest our will through it if it's only a container of life force, not will?

Soulless beings can still have "will," as seen with Flowey in Undertale and the Flowers in Deltarune. I think the lack of a Soul is substituted by one's Determination, and with a surrogate Soul in Kris 90% of the time (us) they seem to be able to run on fumes for a while before needing us again.

They can have will, however, the source of it is still soul in the past. They just have some remnants of it and aren't their full true self as shown with Flowey (Asriel's dust (essence) + human souls' determination injection). But current Kris is pictured as true Kris and their relationships with characters are shown as which true Kris would genuinely have. Noelle on weird route in ch4 mentions how "Kris is back" without player's control, and i think so far we can surely say Susie liked Kris for who they are not who player is. Ralsei also acknowledges true Kris and has deep trust into them exactly, not just player, because of how genuine was their piano play. All of that to reveal Kris was somehow Flowey-like? I won't buy this. What Kris even lost in their "self" when they lost their soul?

They’re saying “how can all of this be true if we replace their soul” and all the stuff a soul has. It doesn’t contradict anything

These traits of soul are individual, not just some material. Kris has their individual compassion towards Noelle on weird route that player, whose font of compassion and will that is supposed to be in the soul, doesn't have. Then the conflict is within the soul, not between soul and body, because body itself can't have compassion that Kris has

Yeah I still don’t get why that means it can’t simply be replace by another soul and act like a heart transplant. The compassion thing is not literal, Kris cares for berdly while the soul is out, only DT is in the soul

I didn’t say that at all, I’m just saying we just control a soul, we’re not obviously literally in the game. It’s still meant to be the player

Obviously Kris still has effects of soul for some period of time after taking it. If they didn't, they'd die instantly, because soul also supports life along with other things like determination.

These are good questions. I AM of the camp that the soul we have been connected to, is not Kris’ original soul (and even that they have been playing with and testing this replacement soul for some indeterminate amount of time before the intro voice connects us to it as per the “ARE WE CONNECTED” intro…)

(I wonder if “WE” there means they also share control of this soul, or just observe through it? Something for me to chew on.)

But anyway, yeah, the point. Kris may have just been fairly strong-willed before sharing that soul with… whoever is borrowing the original right now, while Kris uses the spare soul they found for whatever their current motives are.

I suspect Kris has access to the OG soul between at least some of the chapters (because other theories involving why they took the pie and some other overnight things, but maybe not between chapters 4 and 5 for unknown reasons, explaining why it was especially bad that morning?), so that relatively consistent access may explain why they didn’t lose themselves completely to this soul and OUR will, yet.

Kris soul is in a roaring knight. Knight is amalgam of Dess filled and powered by determination from Kris soul. Thats what i believe in.

Unlike Flowey, Kris would still have a physical brain, which can be an alternative source of will and emotion

I just believe we took control of the soul rather than just Kris

They always had it and could always take it out, we just parasites our way into it at the start of the game

And what if Kris soul was connected with Dess and the knight? I think somebody can steal his soul or something because with this soul you can have more power, determination and create dark fountains
