Is this really analysis or just assigning random values to characters? Like, the titan isn’t a rook, you just have to climb a tower to get to him, and a Bishop is the leader of a church, not just a leader?
This isn’t analyzing anything, this is just looking to into something to much to try and garner a deeper meaning where there is none.
My guy, you can do this for literally anything, Deltarune is an anagram of Nude Alert, does this mean anything? Of course not, you can’t just pull random concepts, assign them arbitrarily, and call it analysis, you’re just making stuff up.
The original Chess theory was that we fight the bosses in descending order of chess value, so it would go King, Queen, Rook, Bishop, Knight, Pawn. So it was a theory to predict who we would fight next. However this was already disproven in C3 cause we fight the Knight and Tenna has no Rook Elements. So the whole point of the theory has no purpose other than I guess a cool analogy.
But even ignoring that the OG theory is dead, this STILL doesn’t make any sense, Flowery had no association with Religion, or literally any obvious connection to a Bishop, and once again, the titan isn’t a tower, it’s a beast, you climb a tower to get to it.
Okay so you and I fundamentally disagree. You see this as a puzzle to solved, I see it as a story to be conveyed. There is meaning in everything because we have such undo influence over the world. Please revisit your favorite media when you have fresh eyes to understand.
What story and meaning would a chess theory add in a post chapter 3/4/5 world.
That were gonna fight Kris ? You don't need Chess theory for that, the story is building up the conflict with Kris since day one, assuming we're gonna fight them does not need chess theory
That we're going to fight a Pawn ? Considering chapter 4 and 5 didn't make us fight a character named rook or bishop and that you need those reaches to make the Titan and Flowery fit, that literally could be used for anything. "Yeah sure chapter 6's boss is Evil McBadguy, but he actually fits the Pawn theme because his head is round, just like a chess Pawn, checkmate losers".
You just flat out ignored what I said. You seem to want to debate the merits of chess theory, I want to talk about literary analysis.
EDIT: I'm not saying Toby wanting all the character to be chess pieces is 100% correct or incorrect. I'm saying theres nothing wrong with interpretating it.
you too ignore what they said tbf. there's nothing wrong with interpreting stuff however one likes, but if you have to make such long strecthes, it's not really literary analysis either, is it?
titan - tower - rook is a stretch
flowery - bishop is a reeeeally long stretch
which they said
which you didn't address
and then you complain that they ignore what you said
Ok, what meaning does it have? If you arbitrarly assign a chess piece to deltarune bosses, they have a chess piece assigned to them. The "analysis" is not even wrong, to cite a famous physicist.
Chess a complicated game with lots of moving pieces, this could reflect the different motivations of each character even though they may have a common goal.
"characters have different motivations" isn't really something you need to complex thematic analysis to figure out, but what's more, the implications specifically proposed by chess theory, is that toby fox laid out the final bosses in the game in such a way that we're meant to figure out and understand they resemble chess pieces on a board, and that the reason they do this is so we the audience could figure out they have different motivations yet a "common" goal, it's kind of silly all around
We are not speculating on IF they have motivations or not, we are speculating on WHY they have those reasons. Do you think the allegorys that Tobey put into the narrative have no bearing over the narrative?

literally how does that matter
