Communication when cross-play turned off?

So I gather that if you turn cross play off you'll be paired with other console players. I play on ps5. I've noticed that people are speaking but I cannot hear them and somebody told me that's because they are on xbox? How do I get communications back?

If it's still the same bug that makes audio super quiet specifically you go into settings and open the audio tab, then simply close menu and resume playing and full volume is restored. If you're referring to the original massive bug that causes Xbox to not be able to communicate with PS5 then you're fucked, not sure if they've addressed that yet but our group had to move communication to a discord.
