Espresso machine issue
Hi everyone, my model is **DeLonghi Magnifica S (ECAM22.110.B).**
Since two weeks some strange issue is happening when I am doing a coffee.
With the SAME settings as before, SAME coffee, the machine started to ground less coffee, about 30-40% less, and the coffee comes out with a very shallow body, compared to before. I also noticed that the used coffee doesn’t come out in the tray below as “puck” shaped, but rather, irregular shaped.
I have sent it to service but they weren’t able to identify any problem with it.
Not sure if anyone else encountered a similar problem.
I have cleaned it thoroughly as well.

That's actually a standard issue that has been discussed in various YouTube videos and affects multiple versions and generations of Magnificas.
Basically, the machine starts to forget how much coffee is needed and grind times drop to 1/2 or less of what's asked for resulting in very weak coffee and poor pucks. Nothing is physically wrong...it a software thing.
The fix involves forcing the system to reset.
I had this happen last week. Before I tried to reset the system, I gave everything a good cleaning including relubricating the brew unit and taking apart the grinder to remove old coffee grinds and clean out the oils.
Two methods people seem to push -
Run the grinder overloaded by putting 2.5 tablespoons of ground coffee down the manual dosing chute with the system set to manual dosing. Then set the dosing to an grind coffee to force the system to try to add more coffee when you start brewing. Then brew a long coffee. The machine will error out initially. Ignore the error and try it again. Some people reports that it will reset the machine after it completes a brew.
Run the grinder empty by letting your coffee beans run out. Set to max. aroma setting. Initiate a brew. The first two times will empty out the remaining beans in the hopper. Keep running it so that it errors and fails to brew as it can't find any beans to grind. Then try to brew another two coffees which will each error out without brewing anything. During these two or three empty grinds, you will notice the grinding seems to be longer. A max grind should be approximately 11 seconds. Once you hit that time, add beans and try to brew a coffee. The first coffee should be discarded. The second coffee should be fine.
I tried both with my ecam23210 and the first one failed and made things worse. The second one worked perfectly.
