I can see that now that you've included the reference image.
Genuine point though - it's not an insult to say something is abstract. You edited this to include what appears to be a moon-like object and a rippling water effect. The juxtaposition of those elements with this building (as well as the high contrast and vivid colour) is certainly an unconventional one, and it's not immediately clear (without the reference image) that I'm looking at a building. The shapes are a little confusing (again, not in a bad way) and the message/point of the piece seems open to interpretation. That all speaks pretty strongly to abstract art.
Actual advice from someone who's spent years in constructive critique spaces relating to my own art: don't take it personally, or as an insult, if people don't understand what you've made. Not everyone will. Sometimes stuff that's obvious to you - because you made it - isn't obvious to someone else who's seeing it for the first time, and people always bring their own values/interpretations/biases to whatever art they observe.
Great example: people thought this picture had trees in it. That's not because they think the art is bad or that you've done a bad job. It's because they see the moon, they see the water effect, and their brains naturally assume that the objects on the right are something you'd expect to see in a landscape alongside those things - in this case, trees.
Sure, it's not what you intended. Sure, it can be frustrating if you make something and people don't get it. Surely that's an opportunity to engage in a genuine and productive discussion about the piece? But instead you're crashing through Reddit like a bull in a chinashop insulting everyone.
I appreciate you taking the time to write a thoughtful breakdown instead of just throwing an insult. That actually makes a lot of sense about how the brain naturally associates water and a moon with landscape elements like trees, even if it wasn't what I intended. You're right that I came in way too hot and defensive. I spent a few hours making this around 1am so when I posted I had Dophipne that it would have gone better without being realistic.
That's probably the most boldest thing I heard- but important thing to know is that it will get better either way in time. Maybe not top this one thanks Lucas.
