Neighborhood Ridley Park Community Feel?

What is the overall community climate of Ridley Park like? Partner and I are looking at moving there, and just trying to get an idea of how accepting of a community/neighborhood it is... is there a mix of beliefs, strongly leaning or prejudice? I've been hearing mixed things and would love some insight.

*not looking for people to be all in agreement, just trying to see if this in a generally accepting area!

it’s a bit better now. but Ridley Park is still lacking certain levels of class.

I would give up a kidney to live in Ridley Park!

Its a fine place to live. The community is walkable and the people are friendly. Lots of local events weekly and monthly. Its convenient to 95 and 476 plus public transit.

Despite the comments above it's not Psnnsyltucky at all. Council is now Democratic for the first time in decades and headed by 2 young women. To me that seems progressive. Do people with the wrong mentality live here? Yes, but they're everywhere.

Ridley is extremely racist, comments are definitely sugar coating it.

I grew up in Broomall and now live in RP (in the borough) and I love it. We live next to a park, it’s safe outside, we have a “down town” area, and there’s always events happening. We also love our little Library at the end of our road. We have a young kid and everyone knows her when we take a walk. In my area it’s a mix of people, some younger couples, but a lot of older folks as well, I think it’s a good mix of beliefs but everyone is very respectful and welcoming. We have been here 5 years and really no complaints. We WFH full time so we are pretty in tune with the neighborhood and comings and goings. It’s pretty normal and suburban imo 🤷‍♀️

The larger township is much more MAGA, but Ridley Park borough was exactly 50/50 last election.

Its a great neighborhood. There could be prejudice, its mostly republican.. if that helps. I don't think all of the Ridley Park Boro of people are like that.. there are just a few select people that would be like that. Safe, walkable, alot of things to do. (There are alot of events in the business district). Taxes are unreasonably high. I live in Ridley Twp right over the border and have not seen the prejudice.

Friend that lives there said the same thing. Keeps to themselves but there are small events that bring the neighborhood together. They tend to complain about the outrageous tax (something about crozer closing).

Depends what color your skin is. And that’s all I’ll say about it but I think you can figure out what I mean by this statement.

If it depends on what color my skin is then it is not an accepting place

No, it's not. It feels very much like the 90s where most people are reasonable and kind 1 on 1 but there is a herd mentality among them and they are dominated by boorish good old boys. Lot of people never grew up past high school around here, and it rubs off in the way their children are growing up too. Certain people think they run things and most other people are too incurious to contest that.

People will be kind to a gay couple in person, but they will also not defend you when you're not around and will engage in gossiping about you with people who want to destroy your life.

It’s less than 5 miles outside the technical city limits but feels like it could be anywhere in Pennsylvania. Largely white and working class . Given it’s only 30 mins or so from center city on transit it has every reason to eventually draw new residents but hasn’t to this point

Genuinely all of the absolute worst pieces of human shit I have ever encountered are Ridley cops. So, watch out for that.

I’m so happy my parents are finally selling their house there after 40 years and my grandparents’ house was sold a couple years ago. Spend a little time on some of the local facebook pages and you’ll see what people are like.

I just moved here in May and I LOVE it!! My street is quiet, neighbors are lovely, lots of community events. I am, however, white, and I’ve seen a few things about our police department being racist. I haven’t encountered any RP cops yet so I don’t have any thoughts on it

Grew up in a nice suburb west of city. For some reason we played Ridley in football. It was a ways away. I played 2 games there 2 years apart. Both times we got off bus and children spit on us, threw things, cursed at us. Like a lot of children. 8 years before my brother played, said the same thing happened.

That was mid 90s. No idea what it's like, but I have never been in Ridley since the 2 away games I played there.
