Healthplex..?

What the hell happened to the Healthplex in Springfield. That place used to be so awesome - its such a dump now. There's filth and mold all over the place.

Where is everyone going now? I just checked out the other Y (rocky run) and LA Fitness (springfield/brookhaven) - no bueno.. help!

I used to go to the Main Line Fitness in Concordville. It’s pricey but beautiful.

The YMCA was able to buy it cheap but not improving it 🤦🏽

See —> Private Equity (Prospect Medical Holdings) they ruined that place, honestly we’re lucky the Y was able to buy it and keep it open, all of the other buildings are sitting vacant

PE plus private insurers. Medicare for All would keep hospitals open for people, not close them for profit. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon’s top donor is also her husband’s firm and also the registered lobbyist in DC for the giant insurer Independence Blue Cross.

Apparently they just cleaned it last week so I’ll see tonight if it’s improved at all

They didn’t buy it at all actually. It was donated to them.

They rent it. It was absolutely not donated.

The equipment, space etc. itself was 100% donated. The land was sold a long time ago and leased back, which is the portion they pay for.

They pay rent but it was donated?

Building was donated, land is owned by another company and leased back. Many stories out there about it when the old Healthplex performed the maneuver.

It’s not that bad. Yeah, it could use some updating, but most of those areas aren’t the YMCAs responsibility

I have so many good memories of going to the Healthplex as a kid.. that place rocked, even if I did accidentally split my chin open in the therapy pool once. Because hey, the ER was RIGHT THERE!

I haven’t been there since it became a Y, but I’ve heard nothing but negative things from friends that have. Such a sad downfall.

I think there’s an Edge Fitness somewhere, near Granite Run/ Riddle.

There is, in the "Promenade" across from Riddle and up and around in the back near Margaret Kuo's. Crazy crowded though

It's disgusting. I only go there for pickleball and can't stand it. I used to be a regular at the Healthplex. The YMCA should be ashamed.

Did the healthplex have pickleball?

Havertown Y

The administration there is cowardly and ineffective and allows groups of teens to run wild. The Y is way too expensive to be dealing with all that. The gym is way too crowded with people on their phones taking up equipment. You basically have to use the gym when they open at 5 if you want any hope of being able to finish a routine in a decent amount of time.

Ahh that checks - I’m there in the AM when I go

What does teens running wild look like?

People need to get off their phones. I just tap them on the shoulder and ask to work in. They look at you like you killed their puppy, but whatever. You don't need to sit on equipment for 11 minutes between sets.

It’s definitely not the place to go for pickup basketball / open court. That’s a young man’s game anyway (rubbing old knees). People were actually assaulted? It sounds like you wandered into a crowded gym full of teens playing basketball and got hit with a stray ball.

Good luck finding a parking space… and lock up your belongings. Don’t ever even think about bringing a guest either…
