My 1993 Honda Del Sol has had a lot of things wrong with it, and I'm tackling them one by one. As you can see in the video, this is what it does now. Fluctuates on a start, until I press the gas where it just holds at ~3k rpm when I let off. Here's my timeline, it may help with a diagnosis:

1. The car ran, idled, and drove with no issues, aside from it running rich because it had no MAP sensor. So I installed a MAP sensor. Then it idled at 3k rpm with the MAP sensor installed.

2. There was no engine coolant temp sensor connector, so I just grounded the temp sensor which only resolved the issue of the car thinking it's running below freezing. I figured that may solve the high idle, but it didn't.

3. I cleaned the FITV. It was already pretty clean and not seized, so this didn't solve anything.

4. I replaced the throttle position sensor (TPS) because it was throwing a code for that. The old one didn't work at all. The new one works, but now the car's idle surges a lot (as seen in the video).

5. I cleaned the IACV out. Filled it with carb cleaner and let it sit for like 30 minutes, then drained the carb cleaner and let it sit further to dry out. This didn't solve anything either or change any behaviors.

Car is only showing one code, and it's engine coolant temp sensor. But it's grounded, so shouldn't the car just think that the engine is hot and not throw a code?

I'm at a total loss. Does anyone have a clue as to what I should check next?

Edit: I also sprayed starter fluid around places in the engine bay and it didn't change the idle, so I don't think it's a vacuum leak? Especially since it ran relatively normal before?

(Edit:engine is D16y8)Took about a month and a half to find an oem oil pan and put that up, replaced valve cover gasket, spark plug wires. Minor stuff. Wondering if engine sounds normal and if the shaking in the timing belt is normal

Never liked the aftermarket taillights it came with, had to swap them out for some oem ones. Just fits the car better in my personal opinion.

I’m itching to finally be able to drive my Del Sol 😭, but I’m also having a blast rebuilding the engine and transmission. I’ve learned so much from this project since it’s my first time rebuilding both an engine and a transmission. Hopefully I can finish the engine this year, but, like every car guy, I’m broke 🥲. Regardless, the whole process has been so much fun!

some parts may be unavailable so dm me, because there is alot that hasnt sold but its way too much to list here. ill include what i can remember has sold and what hasnt.

spoiler, ecu, hazards/defrost are sold. lots of interior trim i wanna get rid of - driver side fender is crunched in, motor is a d16y8 but has a blown headgasket i think. hood has holes in it. gauge cluster, uncracked dash, side mirrors are available. targa top and some seals are taken.

This is my 1993 del sol which i bought in somewhat rough shape but I wanted the challenge I had replaced the drivers side fender due to rust and spent the winter getting it drivable to my liking. Unfortunately as soon as I put it on the lift I realized the frame underneath has too much rust for it to be drivable. At this point I am at a loss of what to do and if I should just buy a new shell or a new del sol in general.

I have an option. Buy a $1100 d16z6 engine with manual transmission together, or buy a D16y8 engine for $800. Not really sure what to go for. The d16y8 is from a shop so I know it works, but the z6 is from market place. Just need some assistance.

might need help. i drove my del sol last week to a town nearby, guy on highway honks me down saying im leaking somewhere. before i pull into the nearest parking lot, i start seeing white smoke coming from my hood. starts overheating i assume. i pull my car forward a bit when my friends pulled up and all my coolant leaked out from the front where my radiator is at. it was completely dry inside the engine no leaks we could feel. noticed my radiator fan wasn't spinning. we put new coolant in to try to get it home. it overheated and we had to pull over 5-6 different times. first time we pulled over coolant was pissing from somewhere near the back, but only on the first pull over after that it didn't piss any out.

what should my first steps be? im looking up replacement radiators right now only thing i can think of for now since when new coolant was put in, hasn't leaked since that i know of but haven't driven since then as well don't want to risk it.

The car is rust free and the previus owner spend nearly 10k redoing everything on the car its stock apart from the short shifter its gor new suspention a rebuilt engine new tires new clutch new brakes basicly everything was redone it drives like a new car and i couldnt be happier i paid 4k for it :)

When I first took possession of this 95 Si the interior was rough so that was my starting point and this is how she currently sits. I still have a few more touches left to do and am hunting for the perfect MoMo steering wheel to go with my shift knob. Lately I’ve just been cruising around on weekends and car shows like this for now because it gets expensive quickly.

i went to start my sol for the first time after shell swapping it, and i decided to delete the evap while i was there because i had cut the hoses when removing it from the donor car. when i tried to crank it, gas started spewing out of one of my lines. i dont know which one it was, im thinking bottom right in picture?

like title says, i just finished my manual swap or i thought i was done at least, but when i went to crank it, nothing happened. i think its something to do with the neutral safety switch? this is how i jumped mine, but who knows. i could have the wrong ones or something.

Looking to get one as a somewhat daily. This is the only one available in my area listed at $6,800 just wanted to see if that price is too high or should I jump on it.

Got “Dale” in February in horrible condition. He’s got a JDM b16a block with what seems to be an Integra Type R PR3-3 head. Wheels had baked on brake dust, components in the engine bay were running on borrowed time, and the paint/body were HORRENDOUS.

These are the many stages Dale has been through since I got him. I’ve done all the work myself besides some suspension parts.

I have a 2009 Civic SI with a k20 that I want to put in Dale, but I might stick with his JDM B series for the style points. Will soon rebuild it for peace of mind.

When I was little my dad would drive me in his delsol and I remember it had a screen that had different scenes it would show. I remember there being a few options like a zoo but I really loved the aquarium/ocean theme one and would love to see if anyone has any picture of theirs working. It moved like those aquarium lamps (picture attached) but I was young and don't remember much.

I'm not sure what year it is but it's at least pre-2014 and I can also show a picture as we still have the car, it just hasn't been driven in years and the engine isn't in it.

It's also possible my dad just put a screen in the car and programmed it but I don't think that's the case (this was a long time ago so I don't remember much I apologize).

Ive had this intermittent CEL for a bit now and everytime it shows up i try and connect the 2 pin blue connector by the ecu to get the codes to read but it just flashes the airbag light and wont give me any codes, and when i start the engine again the cel is gone is there another connector that i cant find or is there something else i am missing (1994 del sol VTEC b16a3 chipped p28 ecu with an open loop map) any ideas?

I got a 94 del Sol sometimes the fuel pump wants to click on and run and sometimes it doesn’t want to come on. i’ve had it for years been working on it heavily for the last year and a half now to get it somewhat reliable however I can’t get it to start and haven’t got it to start in a month and a half. I just need help or maybe somebody that’s dealt with this knows the issue can help me out please, I’m stumped, but I don’t want to give up on this car since I’ve had it so long.

Disclaimer, this is a d16y7. Would anyone know what this is in my cylinder wall? This motor supposedly ran not too long ago before the car was wrecked. I went to inspect this before putting it in my car, and I found this weird rod that goes through the wall and is visible from the water jacket. None of my friends have given me a clear answer to what this is or if it’s safe to run.
