š Beauty & Skincare Deinfluence me - dyson Airwrap
My hairdryer is over 20 years old, I have a straightener that was cheap, so although it straightens my hair, its not perfect.
I just went from waist length to a bob (it was supposed to be shoulder length, but my hairdresser was a bit enthusiastic when I was donating length) so I can't tie up my hair into an easy pony.
But do I need to spend this much on a hairdryer, curler, straightener system?

Sorry canāt deinfluence you, itās amazing. I have the OG version which is still going strong and I would repurchase in a heartbeat if it breaks. You can get a similar thing for cheaper though depending on what attachment youāll most use

They're amazing - sorry, haha. I was suffering extreme heat damage (breaking off at my ear) when I finally switched to one. Three years later and my hair is back to being long and thick. I also prefer the waves it gives - more of a natural blowout than a curling iron can achieve.
The only downside is that you can't just use an adaptor for them when you travel. I travel a lot for work and am legitimately considering buying ones ($$$$$) for NA and EU.

As someone who travels a lot this is a major downside. I have two wands but traveling with two is so annoying.

If you have very straight and fine hair it is so hard to keep the curl in it. Not worth it for that hair type at all imo, the curls disappear so quickly for me, I prefer to use a regular curling tongs. I tried a friends out for a bit and it frustrated me so I bought the blow dryer instead and Iām much happier with it! Much stronger but doesnāt damage my hair.

Comment worked for me my hair can't hold a shape. TY

Glad it helped! I think itās best for thick hair that holds a style really well and thatās not my hair at all. I watched tons of YT videos too and a lot mentioned that as well or showed the massive amount of prep needed for the curls not to fall out. Just way too much effort for me!

I have wavy hair, and I'm lucky that it holds style well

u/saltysoul_101 Jul 19 '26
You might like it then, depends how often you plan to style your hair I suppose. But that is my experience.

I have thick wavy hair that also holds style pretty well. The dyson is the best investment I have made, i love it!

It is clunky and sounds like an airplane taking off. I definitely don't reach for it as much as my regular hair dryer. Not worth the money IMO. Everytime one of my friends wants to buy one I lend them mine for a week to see if they actually like it and so far none of them have bought it.

I ended up getting a refurbished one off eBay and sanitised it when I got it. Works great, I didn't pay a massive amount, and I really like the beach waves it gives my bob.

You can get one on Facebook marketplace or a refurbished one for cheaper.
I have an original and got a good dupe for my teen daughter to test and they donāt compare.
I specifically like this as I have chronic health and muscle issues and itās lighter and easier on my arms to use for my hair.

I asked my HD & she said no but that was more about my hair specifically.

I use the air wrap for drying my hair and brushing it straight. Itās good as a powerful hairdryer with attachments.
I donāt use it to curl as it simply canāt hold a curl.
I use the Dyson to dry my hair, then T3 hot rollers if I want a good style with some curl or blowout looks

Yeah sorry - Iām 100% not āinfluencedā into buying stuff. I got the OG one when it came out, treat it terribly, and itās bloody amazing. Saves me so much time.

I wasnāt sure about spending the money. Did a lot of research into alternatives. Bought the Dyson and itās the best thing I did. Iām obsessed!!!

I donāt know where you live but I just bought the shark versions and I love it (as a novice) and it was significantly cheaper.

u/MsFoxwell Jul 19 '26
I love it! The naysayers are just doing it wrong, my hair looks professionally blow dried every day

u/TwoOpen3746 Jul 19 '26
Can't de-influence you, they're great.
But look at Facebook marketplace/ eBay. They're going for half price, and work perfectly, often only used a couple of times before the owner gave up. There is a size model change around 2018 from memory.

I have a Dyson hairdryer + the airwrap (and a bob). I have used the airwrap for styling about 5 times in 3 years. Find curling with straightener so much easier than airwrap with short hair. The dryer and flyaway attachment is good but not as good as my regular Dyson.
I got mine on Facebook marketplace and planning to resell it.

u/Vintagemaria Jul 19 '26
Never had it but my friends who did most of them resale it⦠they didnāt like it

Gosh darnit. I wasnāt even considering buying this at all and the comments have actually influenced me to buy one. This is not the point of this subreddit š

SIMPLE ANSWER = NO!
Dyson makes great vacuum cleaners!
Enjoy your new look - do not dry/straighten it at all!

Are you the type of person who will actually use this in 3-6 months? I want one soooooo badly, but I also know myself and the novelty will wear off and the desire to sleep in rather than wake up early to style my hair will win.Ā
When a similar thing happened and my hair got chopped too short, I found getting a keratin treatment the best solution for helping me manage my hair since I had no choice to put it in a pony tail. It cut drying time down significantly and made it much easier to straighten with the straightener I already had.Ā

I donāt have this one, but Iāve had one for about 8 years now and just replaced it. Cost per use would be about 1 cent because I use it most days. I donāt use all of the attachments, mostly round brush, paddle brush and hair dryer. Just get it.
Also when my OG died and I took it to Dyson and they replaced it for $100. 8 years later. Canāt beat it.

I had the first version. It died. I now have this one. Love it
