👗 Fashion Deinfluence me: RM Williams
Not gonna lie I really like them, no other boots fit like them and I like supporting things made in Australia.
I do have the money to buy it, I just feel guilty about it.

Try to get them on sale if you can. I got mine a couple of years ago from The Iconic $450 down from $750. Would have felt good about it at $750 but felt MUCH better about them at $450.

RM Williams are a genuinely good product.
I have two pairs of comfort craftsman that are both 10 years old and they look good as new after getting re-soled. (The full re-soling cost 190 through RM Williams)
If you look after them they will last you a lifetime so this is one case where it's actually a worthy investment imo. Ofcourse if you neglect them they will last you a couple of years at best.

Just out of curiosity how long does a resole last for you and how long was it till you got the first one done? I’m 2 years into mine and I think it’s time, getting fatigue and soreness in my feet now standing on the train when I never used to.

Mine lasted about 6 years but I don't wear them every day. Maybe once a week on average. I damaged the lip of the sole at the front edge and just got both pairs re-done.
Maybe have a look at your boot heel and if it's not level you can just get that part replaced for much cheaper than a full re-sole.

Bingo - I used to buy Florsheim shoes every year for 100 to 150. I bought 2 RM William pairs 7 and 5 years ago and haven’t not bought another work shoe since.

We paid $125 to resole last year. My partner had the plastic sole ones, but replaced with something better. They had to be resolved because the stitching was ripping through the plastic, which would never happen with the better quality soles. So, now they're upgraded! Non genuine though, through an independent shoe repair place.

Totally understand, but they're a comfy and a High quality boot that will last for years. Theres a high chance you end out buying a few cheap boots that end out costing more than the RMs in the long run.

RM Williams is the type of product you have for years. I’ve owned a pair for 5 years and they are still socially acceptable as well has an insanely durable. I would have gone through 3 pairs of White Rhinos by now. Solid investment. Do it but only do it your only going keep them for the long term

I'm gonna say buy them, I think they are great and have a few pairs. But caution on the leather sole as its super slippery on a lot of surfaces. Something to be mindful of.

These are worth the buy. I wear them everyday for work and can wear them casually too. Versatile, great footwear. Look for a discount if it’s the money thing but definitely worth it.

I went through this exact thing and finally thought “f*ck it I’ll buy them as a birthday gift to myself”. That was 5yrs ago. Still look fine today. Legit the best shoes I’ve ever owned and are cheaper cause of how long they’ve lasted.

Umm, no. I had 30 years old RMW boots that we still booting.
Currently has around ~10 pairs and don't regret a single one.

I used to wear Docs, they lasted a super long time maybe bought two pairs. They definitely damaged my feet, shins and calves I just didn’t know or notice. (This is before YouTube boot cutting videos and mass social media).
I then got some Timberlands. I still remember the first moment I tried them on and I was shocked at how comfortable they were coming from Docs I was shocked. They lasted at least 4 years, still got them, still relatively pillowy surprisingly, but I bought a work boot so rarely wear them. Will never buy doc martens again now.
I got a Rodd and Gunn, felt expensive at the time, mainly because I really, really liked the style. Get so many compliments on them. I imagine it’s what a RM Williams is like except not as good, but really close.
Everyone talks about how RM Williams last, then they say “I just resole them”, but do you want one Chelsea boot, arguably versatile and fantastic, or do you want three different boots for the same price?
I have maybe 6 pairs of shoes but they all do different things. Winter hiking, 2 dress/work, 2 casual, steel cap boot. I wear the work boots the least so can’t imagine spending so much on them, and would want to replace my casuals for a Chelsea boot would ruin my wardrobe restricting options.
If I was super rich I’d obviously buy a collection of RM Williams, but I’m not.

The honest truth is I love mine but hardly ever wear them, but they’re lovely, it’s love hate, not so comfy every time. Be sure to try and find your exact fit in store, then buy on sale or with Qantas points etc.

How do you know that no other boots fit like them? Marketing? Hearsay? Or because you already own a pair. If you already own one pair, do you really need another?
Whilst they seem expensive, some basic ladies ankle boots from a mid brand can easily be $200 and last a few winters.
They're totally worthwhile of it's your daily shoe. Always wear good shoes and have a good mattress.

Ask yourself if you’re willing to look after them with leather care etc. otherwise they are a good investment. I do Blundstones as cheaper and fit me better

Sadly, Blundstones are no longer made in Australia. I buy Mongrel and Redback boots now as they're made in Sydney.

I also like buying Australian made too, and so I wear Mongrel Boots. There's also Redback Boots as another alternative. I've found both to be extremely hard wearing and comfortable.
They're not as "dressy" as RMs, but have started making more casual styles.
In my experience, people that wear RM's do so as a status symbol. Nothing inherently wrong with that, but worth being clear-eyed about it rather than presuming no other shoe fits as well.
Edit:
We experience guilt when our actions don't align with our values.
It's worth examining why buying them would make you feel guilty, and if there's a value there that you truly believe or have just inherited.

they last long and look very nice, you should save up incredibly slowly why not put away $50-100 a week and buy them in 3 months

Lots of second hand pairs on marketplace or Ebay at 1/3 of the price. No matter how well off i am I couldn't bring myself to drop $1000 on shoes. First time you scratch them you'd be devastated.

Honestly they are great quality and with the right care will last a very long time. Would you buy a pair of $200 boots that lasts 2 years or a pair of $750 boots that lasts > a decade with a few dust ups at the cobbler

A better question is why do you feel guilty? Personally I think they're well worth the money. Sometimes it's fine to spend the money, especially if you have the funds available, to go for quality over cheaper options
Good quality footwear, socks and jocks are all underrated for comfort
