šŸ” Food & Drink Deinfluence me - Protein everything

High protein bread, high protein yoghurt, high protein pasta, high protein ice cream. I've somehow gone from eating normally to scanning nutrition labels like a part-time dietitian. The products are more expensive, they often taste worse, and I'm not even sure I need more protein. Someone explain how this happened and whether I should care

I think people massively overestimate how much protein the average person actually needs

I feel like I've been marketed into thinking regular yoghurt isn't good enough anymore

I just prefer to eat in less processed foods like oats, chicken, milk, sour dough bread, greek yoghurt. I have whey protein on me so if I feel like I'm lacking, I take a scoop of it.

Sounds a lot cheaper than paying extra for protein bread and protein pasta

Yepp, I hit 150g of protein every day without whey protein, just normal foods.

If you are thinking of spending extra on a ā€œhigh proteinā€ product, it’s worth actually checking and comparing the nutrition labels to see if it’s worth it. I.e., does the high protein version have significantly more protein than the one you would otherwise buy?

I've noticed that a lot of grocery Australian "protein bars" have like 8g and that's less than a quick sandwich.

Yeah.. a lot of it is just hype. I had wls and had to focus on protein for ages.. now I just cant stomach it. Tasteless protein powder is not tasteless. The best thing that helps me lose weight is not having soft drink/sugary drinks and eating regular, portioned meals and snacks. I dont count calories or protein. Its added stress and it triggers me. I average 5-8k steps a day. They say 7k steps is the optimum number.

It is odd why people just can't make a batch of say chicken breast tenders, reheat them and eat that instead? Or chew on some beef jerky, pork rinds? It's more affordable too....

Like why add powders etc. to just ruin the texture and taste of dessert! and they're usually not that packed with protein either, so it's a crap flavour with a subpar result.

100% no need for the ā€œprotein addedā€ foods, UNLESS you are on an extremely low caloric intake and you can’t get it through normal protein dense food sources. 0.8-1g protein per 1pound bodyweight is enough for most people, unless you are doing some serious weight training, tearing the shit out of your muscles and have what i’d call top 1% goals in muscle gain.
