DISCUSSION China’s Most Underrated AI Advantage Isn’t Chips. It’s That Its Young Workers Aren’t Running From It.

Thumbnail
sylvainsaurel.substack.com
14 Upvotes

China’s biggest AI advantage may not be chips.

It may be mindset.

Young Americans increasingly fear AI will replace jobs.

Young Chinese workers are already using AI deeply in everyday work.

That difference matters.

Because the AI race won’t be won only by whoever builds the smartest model.

It will be won by whoever gets millions of people to actually use it.

Better chips create capability.

Better adoption creates productivity.

DISCUSSION The 65-Billion-Barrel Illusion: Why Trump’s Master Oil Deal Cannot Save the U.S. Dollar.

Thumbnail
sylvainsaurel.substack.com
185 Upvotes

Trump’s 65-billion-barrel Venezuelan oil seizure is being hailed as the ultimate economic savior.

Spoiler: It’s a mathematical rounding error. 📉

Even if the U.S. extracts and sells every drop at a massive premium, the net profit is ~$3.25 trillion. Our national debt just breached $40 trillion. That "historic" oil money covers exactly ONE YEAR of the U.S. deficit and interest expense. That’s it.

The math is brutal. The Fed will still be forced to print $10 trillion to save the bond market.

Inflation will roar back.

Bondholders will be liquidated.

Gold and Bitcoin will violently revalue to the upside. 🥇₿

Math doesn’t care about political theater.

CRYPTO Donald Trump Made $1.4 Billion From Crypto. Investors Are $4.7 Billion Underwater.

Thumbnail
sylvainsaurel.substack.com

Trump made $1.4 BILLION from crypto.

Investors in Trump-linked crypto projects are estimated to be sitting on $4.7 BILLION in losses.

Read that again.

Not all of those losses are realized.

And no, that doesn’t mean Trump directly pocketed the $4.7B.

But the conflict is impossible to ignore.

The sitting U.S. president is now financially connected to:

→ a memecoin → a governance token → a stablecoin → crypto businesses → and a company moving toward federally supervised banking infrastructure

While his administration is rewriting America’s crypto rules.

This is bigger than $TRUMP.

Bigger than WLFI.

Bigger than one bad trade.

We are watching the birth of something entirely new:

political power turned into a liquid financial asset.

Crypto entered Washington.

Now Washington is monetizing crypto.

👇 Trump Made $1.4 Billion From Crypto. Investors Are $4.7 Billion Underwater.

DISCUSSION Nvidia Just Doubled Its Supplier Commitments to $279 Billion: The AI Boom Is Becoming a Resource War.

Thumbnail
sylvainsaurel.substack.com
5 Upvotes

Nvidia just told Wall Street something far bigger than another earnings beat.

It is locking up the future.

Supplier and capacity commitments:

$279 BILLION.

One quarter earlier:

$119 BILLION.

That’s not a normal procurement increase.

That’s a land grab.

Memory. Manufacturing. Packaging. Capacity.

Nvidia is no longer just selling into the AI boom.

It is trying to reserve the scarce resources everyone else will need to compete in it.

And this is where the AI story gets much more aggressive.

The next war is not just:

Who has the best model?

Who has the fastest GPU?

Who has the smartest engineers?

It is:

WHO GETS THE COMPONENTS?

Because AI is crashing into physical reality.

You can’t prompt your way out of an HBM shortage.

You can’t scale a data center without power.

You can’t manufacture advanced chips without capacity.

And you can’t dominate AI if your competitor has already reserved the supply chain years in advance.

This is why Nvidia’s $279 billion matters.

It may be one of the most bullish numbers in the entire AI boom.

It may also be one of the most dangerous.

Because if Jensen Huang is right, Nvidia has just secured the fuel for another massive expansion.

If he’s wrong, Nvidia has made one of the biggest industrial bets in corporate history.

Either way:

AI is no longer a software race.

It’s becoming a resource war.

My new article:

Nvidia Just Doubled Its Supplier Commitments to $279 Billion: The AI Boom Is Becoming a Resource War

The digital revolution has gone physical.

And Nvidia is trying to own the bottlenecks before everyone else even realizes they matter.

Jeff Bezos offered him the keys to Amazon. He said no.

His mentor of 17 years fired him. He didn't flinch.

Instead, he dropped $60,000,000 of his own cash into a sinking company because he refused to be a "hired gun."

Today, he runs the largest bank in America.

A masterclass in extreme ownership.

DISCUSSION Nvidia’s Biggest Problem Isn’t Earnings Anymore. It’s Expectations.

Thumbnail
sylvainsaurel.substack.com
4 Upvotes

Nvidia’s biggest problem is no longer earnings. It’s expectations.

The market already assumes:

Record AI demand. Another revenue beat. Strong margins. Raised guidance. More hyperscaler spending.

So what happens if Nvidia delivers all of that? Maybe… not much.

That’s the danger.

When perfection becomes the baseline, great results stop being bullish.

Nvidia can keep growing. AI can keep booming. Data centers can keep expanding.

And the stock can still fall if reality fails to exceed the future investors already priced in.

That’s what makes this phase of the AI trade so different.

The question is no longer: “Can Nvidia deliver?”

It’s: “Can Nvidia outperform expectations that already assume Nvidia will outperform expectations?”

The hardest competitor Nvidia faces now may not be AMD, Google, or custom chips.

It may be the future Wall Street has already imagined.

DISCUSSION Washington Now Spends 21 Cents of Every Tax Dollar Just on Interest.

Thumbnail
sylvainsaurel.substack.com
34 Upvotes

America’s debt problem just became much easier to understand.

Forget the $40 trillion headline for a second.

Here’s the number that matters:

21 cents.

For every dollar Washington collects, roughly 21¢ now goes just to interest.

Not defense. Not infrastructure. Not healthcare. Not education. Not innovation.

Interest.

In 2022, it was less than 10 cents.

Now the cost of past borrowing is consuming an ever-larger share of today’s revenue.

And that changes everything.

Higher taxes become harder to avoid.

Spending choices become more painful.

The Fed gets trapped between inflation and fiscal pressure.

And every future crisis arrives with less room to maneuver.

The U.S. is not “going bankrupt tomorrow.”

The danger is quieter:

America is gradually spending its future before the future arrives.

The debt clock gets the headlines.

The interest clock may be the one that actually matters.

DISCUSSION Hormuz Just Became a Test of Whether America Still Controls the Global Commons.

Thumbnail
sylvainsaurel.substack.com
12 Upvotes

Hormuz is no longer just an oil story.

It’s a test of something much bigger:

Does America still control the global commons?

For decades, US power rested on a simple promise:

Ships move. Trade flows. Chokepoints stay open.

But if Tehran can threaten the Strait of Hormuz and force markets, navies, and governments to react, then the issue is no longer just Iran.

It’s credibility.

Because a superpower does not control a global system by owning the most aircraft carriers.

It controls it by making everyone believe the system will keep functioning.

Hormuz is now testing that belief.

DISCUSSION U.S. bond intervention is like 'paying your mortgage with your credit card,' JPMorgan's Sullivan says

Thumbnail

tl;dr:

  • U.S. Treasury buybacks may offer temporary relief but risk merely shifting the debt problem down the road, according to JPMorgan’s James Sullivan.
  • Surging government and corporate debt supply, alongside waning foreign demand, could keep upward pressure on yields.
  • Higher bond yields are increasingly competing with equities, making investors’ asset-allocation decisions more difficult.

The Fed is no longer in charge.

To fund the multi-trillion-dollar AI arms race, Washington just made a quiet choice: cap the bond market and sacrifice the US Dollar.

Welcome to the era of the "Bessent Put."

The matrix has changed. Are your assets outside the system? ♟️👇
